Scrappy Saturday

July is pink month at the Rainbow Scrap Challenge, and I have finished sewing my pink "Wishing Ring" blocks. These blocks are inspired by a Temecula Quilts project and use up 1.5" scraps. It makes me happy to look at these blocks and remember the quilts in which the fabrics were originally used.

I arranged the blocks from January to July in vertical colour lines to see if I would like that layout. I have been making approximately half the rings light and half dark each month, but not having an exact plan made this layout harder to organize and I couldn't put the colours in the order I would prefer. Oh well, I don't like this layout as much as the diagonal layout I tried last month anyway.

  2. sounds like you are still experimenting with layout - for my pyramids I am not sure what my layout will be and so far just have the colors in rows but I do not like them like so I must start to experiment with them like you are doing with your blocks

  3. I think the diagonal layout has more movement.

  4. Those rings are pretty in pink, Kathy! I like the way the triangle corners come together in the layout you're showing here. Does that happen in the diagonal layout, too? I'll have to go look!

  5. What pretty blocks..... wishing I was near my stash today... and in the ac! I think I will be starting this block in scraps when I get home.

  6. I love your wishing rings blocks - and both layouts. The vertical layout is more symmetrical, which appeals to my organized nature, but the diagonal layout is more dynamic, which appeals to my carefree side. Go with your gut - you’re a winner either way!

  7. I like the diagonal layout too. It was a good idea to make half the rings light and half of them dark.

  15. I like both layouts. That's the beauty of art -- we get to do what we like!

  16. I like both layouts but like the diagonal layout better. Mine will go into a big quilt and be all mixed up and sewn together randomly!
