Before I start talking about scraps today, I should announce the winner of the Slow Sunday Stitching anniversary prize
... drum roll...
link up #6 is the winner which is Sandra from Cro's Nest!
Congratulations Sandra ... email me your address and I'll pop your little gifts in the mail.
And now on to scrap chat...
from time to time I receive a pile of scraps that someone knows they shouldn't throw in the garbage, but they really don't want them. Did you see the donation quilt I recently made with leftover HSTs from a quilter in my guild? Wonderful treasures can be made with little scraps!

Tula scraps from Debby |
piles of similar pieces |
I mean seriously....
I start by spreading out the scraps and looking for similar pieces to pile up together. I study the shapes (lots of triangles in this collection) and contrasting colours and wonder to myself "what could I make with these"?

1) there is no "right" answer to the above question.
Anything could happen!
AND...
2) Nothing could happen!
I have learned that the longer I wait to start sewing, the higher the probability that nothing will happen and the bag will go in the UFO closet.
Blocks are sewn and pressed, now it's time to step back and look at what has been created so far.
Well now... that's a little bit frenetic!
These blocks could become part of the scrappy backing for the Tula Pineapple quilt.
Or do they want to be their own little quilt?
The moral of this blogpost is, if you have scraps that you are tempted to throw out, I guarantee there is someone out there that will sew them up. So find your nearest scrap lover and save the pieces for them!
Love these!! They will find a spot somewhere/sometime!
ReplyDeleteThose will make something cute, I'm sure. The local guild here does grab bags of scraps for a fundraiser at their quilt show, so my unwanted leftovers go there.
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun you must be having with those gift scraps!! It's always such a sweet surprise when someone brings you a baggie of fabric bits. The blocks look SEW good and I can't WAIT to see how you put them all together!
ReplyDeleteOo, I love the colors in these little bits and pieces! How fun that you were able to make triangles in squares. They would make a great border for a little panel in those same colors :)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the colors and those little triangles are so fun! Your statement about the longer you wait is so true! I can sit and hem and haw over what to do with scraps, and then nothing happens. I need to adopt your attitude of "just get sewing" and figure it out as I go.
ReplyDeleteAnd that someone could be me--or you! I am always receiving scraps and can't begin to name the many quilts (small and large) that I have made from the cast-offs of others. We would have to fight over scraps if we lived near one another. LOL
ReplyDeleteWhat fun fabrics. That would make a very lively quilt border or if you wanted to tone it down, add some plain sashing between the blocks.
ReplyDeleteNow those are some nice and colorful scraps!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right.:) Lovely to see these come together.:)
ReplyDeleteLucky you to get TULA fabric scraps. I have some of that Zuma line. Gotta decide what I want to make with it. Happy Scraping.
ReplyDeleteI agree! Those cute scraps had to have a second life ;)
