It is exciting to be starting another year with the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I have several ongoing scrappy projects that will be carried into 2019 for scrappy additions.
*Mini Arrowhead Blocks - these are 3.5" blocks made from 4.25" squares (pattern here and cutting for alternate sizes here). They are fun and quick and I'll add a few more each month. I made 2 red blocks to add to the collection this week.
*I will be on the look out for more 5" block patterns to add to my RSC 2018 Squared Away BOM.
*Maverick Stars - I really like this block and how the layout I have chosen works so well with the light and dark backgrounds.I'll make more blocks this year to make the quilt larger.
*Omigosh - this quilt needs over two hundred 5" blocks and I have made just over half of them. I save all my 1" squares and strips for these blocks. I think I will be making them until I die :)
*Mini log cabins - this was a new project in 2018 that was sparked by Julie's Log Cabin Loonies (cutting instructions here). It's such a great block pattern for using up tiny strips. I will continue adding blocks to the collection this year, starting with sewing a red block today!
*Scrappy sprouts - It seems I only want to work on this in the spring when it's gardening time. The rest of the year it seems to languish without much attention from me.
*Alamo stars - this project is entering it's 8th year and I've lost interest in making any more blocks for it, so it's time to get this one done. I have never put them up on the design wall together, so maybe that will happen this month? Hop over to the Rainbow Scrap Challenge link up.
It is exciting to know that there are so many beautiful quilts waiting in the wings, and one is ready to come together. Excited about the big reveal. The longer the project goes on, the more exciting it is to see to get finished.
That is a lot of blocks!! You'll have several beautiful quilts when those are all assembled. I want to see the Alamo stars too, looks like it will be spectacular.
I love the log cabin blocks! Sue Garman challenged us as Quilters didn't she! Such a wonderful Designer and person! BUT one has to be a dedicated Quilt to sit down and make one of her quilts. You will have a nice quilt when you put Alamo Stars together!
I've always loved your little Alamo Stars. It was when I first saw them and then found out how small they are, that I realized what a crazy person you are. I still love them, but have no desire to make them in that size, maybe the larger ones someday. The little logs look interesting too, again too many really tiny pieces for me. Pat
me too on the Alamo blocks - and yes if it has been going on 8 years it is time to get it done or hand the blocks off to someone else LOL - my Love Entwined was started in 2013 so it is 6 years of sitting in a box - time to finish that center or toss it!
Love those Alamo star blocks. I've never done the RSC, but, looking at Mari's blog post today, I just might join in, using the same block she is using. I love making HST's on hand cranks. Easy and quick.
I'll bet that as soon as you put those Alamo stars up on the design wall you'll be inspired to stitch them together. I can only see the top one, but I'm sure it will be a great quilt! If you need some ideas to add to Squared Away, I have a few patterns left over! Have fun with those blocks.
Holly cow, so many blocks, different types and sizes and colors. That would drive me batty trying to decide what to work on. You must dream about quilts with that many going on, lol.
Such fun block collections! I can't wait to see those alamo stars all togehter. It will be like a christmas present to open for those of us who have been following their progress all these years! The mini log cabins are penciled in on my list this year.....
I really enjoy following along on your rainbow scrap challenge blocks. Can't wait to see the Alamo Stars on your design wall. Those are a favorite, along with your Omigosh, and those great mini Arrowhead blocks!
Yes, please put your Alamo stars up on the design wall...can't wait to see how they'll all look together!
ReplyDeleteThose arrowhead blocks are so interesting and look great put together. I would like to use this someday for a quilt border.

ReplyDeleteGood luck with you RSC projects in 2019. Unfortunately it seems to be much easier to start RSC projects than it is to finish them!
