Am I crazy to have 2 mystery quilts on the go at this busy time of the year?!?
Don't answer that!
First up is the Temecula Secret Santa mystery. The final step was posted on Friday and I am not even close to finishing my blocks. I am sewing these blocks on my 221K White Featherweight. Everything is more fun to sew on this lovely machine, and although she is 53 years old, she still sews like a dream!
This has been such a great project to work on and I'm really happy with how my fabric choices are working out. It's a labour intensive undertaking since here are a lot of pieces in these blocks - 97 pieces to be exact!
Here are my first 3 blocks on the design wall. I just need to sew 9 more of these and figure out the sashing. Sharon told me that this block pattern is called Burgoyne Surrounded, so I looked it up. Yes indeed, that is what we are making!
Tomorrow I'll update the Quiltville mystery that I've also started working on.
Hop over to Small Quilts to see more design wall posting.
I like the use of the stripe in this block. Now if you have enough for the sashing - would really set this off.
ReplyDeleteThese blocks are beautiful! I would love to see a picture of them right up beside each other to see if they create a secondary design.
ReplyDeleteWow! 97 pieces per block? They look great...I also love the way the striped fabric looks in your blocks. Now I know what you were sewing all day yesterday!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, and takes much time, I can imagine.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely fabric choices in these blocks--97 pieces? I will be on the sidelines cheering you on lol hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteWow, that is quite a block, insane number of pieces!! How big is the block?
ReplyDeleteLess than 12"!
DeletePretty blocks! Your stripe worked out so well in the design :)
ReplyDeleteYes, 97 pieces per block! I can certify that, having made one mini quilt of this pattern, and having a second one in the works. Your blocks make me think of peppermint candy!
ReplyDeleteI can also certify that you ARE crazy to have two mystery quilts going at holiday time!! LOL
The red and white blocks display well with the white Featherweight so another good reason to sew on it this time.
ReplyDeleteYour color choices are beautiful! It will be fun to watch your progress on this wonderful quilt. What a cute machine, too!
ReplyDeletetwo mysteries - are you crazy girl LOL -- not really I think it is great that you love doing these so much and not chicken like me - I never partake in them as I did once years ago and my color was so off it was horrible - not enough instruction give and I hated it. I know Bonnie gives so much information and I collect her patterns throughout the mystery in hopes that one day I will make it - and I love the Temecula mystery also - that pattern is so neat if I had seen it early enough I might have made it - I might have to go back in and save those post for another time
ReplyDeleteOh my now I want to start another quilt. Love your blocks, they would look so good on my bed at christmas time! Resisting the urge!
ReplyDeleteFunny how I never thought I'd make a Burgoyne Surrounded block because of the crazy number of pieces in it, yet when I make a bunch of 4-patches one week, 9-patches for a few weeks, and cut simple rectangles another week, it doesn't seem overwhelming 🙂. I've got 7 of the 12 blocks assembled, but I'm mixing it in with Pat Sloan's Merry & Bright QAL and Moda Blockheads II, plus last-minute Christmas finishes. Good thing we all love what we do! Love your fabrics - your blocks look just great, so I guess a little crazy doesn't hurt!
ReplyDeleteI did another Mystery with this pattern. I think it was one of those Weekend Whatever or something like that with Merry Mayhem. Glad you're having fun. Crazy is relative, you get it from your family, lol.
ReplyDeleteI love your fabrics. A few months ago I modified and pieced a Burgoyne Surrounded quilt, I called it Vertigo. If you've never had vertigo you only need look at my quilt. Yours is gorgeous. Denise @fortheloveofgeese
ReplyDeleteSo far I've only done clue no 1 of this mystery quilt and was waiting to see how the pieces evolved. So mine won't be finished this year.
ReplyDeleteYour accuracy with these miniature pieces always impresses me, Kathy! Great color choices. I do love this block, don't know that I'll ever make one though!
ReplyDeleteOoh! I love those blocks! I need to make one too. :)
ReplyDeleteI've been following this sew along (but not joining in) and just love the final product. Your blocks are coming along beautifully. Maybe some day it will go onto my TO DO list - love all the pieces!
ReplyDeletewhat a great block! love the stripes and mix of prints!
ReplyDeleteThat's a lot of pieces per block so slow going. Mystery quilts are such fun, but I try to limit the ones I participate in, otherwise my UFO numbers would sky rocket.
ReplyDeleteYour fabric selections are so great for this project. And you are doing this sewalong plus Bonnie's mystery quilt. You rock girl!!
