This month I am going to finish the quilt top that Kevin designed as a mystery project last summer. His pattern is called Sapphire Stars, but I made my version with green, so I call my quilt Emerald Stars. You can see Kevin's finished quilt here. I have the inner part of the quilt together (don't mind the mistake block that still has to be fixed!) but there is a lot of border work to do on this quilt. It's the borders that get me everytime because that's my least favourite quilting task. And when there are several borders... ugh. But I know it's worth all the work and it will look good when it's done. I just have to FOCUS! Linking up to the September goal setting party over at One Monthly Goal.
I finally spotted the mistake PIECE. I’m sure you’re annoyed the way I am when quilts are bossy and switch places when you’re not looking! It’s looking great! I often make borderless quilts for just that reason.
I stitched the piano key borders yesterday. I still have the sashing to make for 2 of my 3 versions. I don't have the blocks together for the last version. I'm changing up the borders, since I didn't like the long piano keys turned sideways. I stitched mine like regular piano keys.
Finally found the mistake which isn't very onvious, but I know you'll need to fix it. I would too. I abandoned this one somewhere in the middle. I made fewer and fewer pieces with each clue and finally stopped. I didn't like my color choices. So now I have a bunch of orphan blocks and no idea how to use them. Pat
I know what you mean about borders. I tend to have several quilts set aside that need borders, and do them all at once. Your Emerald Stars are so pretty! What are you thinking for borders, a floral?
You know I love your version of "Sapphire Stars" Kathy! I love pieced borders, because, I love to piece! LOL It bores me to add borders any other way. But which ever way you decide to make your borders, it is going to be wonderful! And, if you are brave enough.....I would leave the "mistake!" Make future generations find delight in it! LOL
Your quilt looks wonderful! My OMG is to finish the border too! I call mine the endless border! I'm also having issue of staying focused. I'll look forward to seeing yours finished!
this is lovely--and looks complicated--points and angles--oh my!! You've certainly set yourself a goal for the month...hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteYou go, girl!! I love the offset block the star blocks create -- cool quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goal. Pieced borders are so tedious to do but OMG the magic they bring. So go for it. I have faith in you. ;^)
ReplyDeleteYou are up to the challenge! Happy sewing!
ReplyDeleteMistake block, that I can't see. Fun change from the original. Pieced Borders put a damper on my progress too.
