It's spring according to the calendar. We won't be seeing anything resembling spring for another couple of months, but we can hope for and anticipate the changes to come!
I have been working on some blocks for our group donation quilt and thought I'd share a "fail" block. I had some yoyos that looked like they might want to become trees. It was fun to stitch the yoyos on, some with the flat side down and some with the gathered side down. But nope... it looks too phallic and I'm sure it will be rejected from the collection!
Here are the blocks so far for our sampler quilt. The yoyo forest definitely jumps right out! I also just finished sewing the block to the right of the trees, and quite like how that one turned out. Maybe I'll spend the first day of spring sewing a pumpkin block! How are you celebrating the change of season?
I hope your spring is earlier than a couple months away! really that long? it is 45 here this morning and our high is to be lower than average at 58 - our spring temps are a little lower than average this week. Love all your blocks

Yup not what you need for the quilt. Better off with a maple leaf block than this one. Of course there are quilters who would go with a whole slew of those blocks and give it a shock worthy title. Perhaps for another time!
Hahaha, well I’m sure if you added a lot more yo-yos to make tree shapes that overlapped the phallic image would resolve! We are about to get slammed with a huge rainstorm and mandatory and voluntary evacuations have been issued for all those living below burn areas. Scary times in SoCal!
It doesn't look phallic to me...I think it stands out because it's a lone modern-style block amongst the traditional ones. I agree with others...add a few more yoyos and it should be fine. It might also be fun to add yoyos to some other blocks...giving the quilt a bit of a fun, cheeky feel. :)
Haha, that is always my worry whenever I try to draw or design something - does it resemble something that I don't want it to? I must have a dirty mind, because it almost always does look like that to me! I'm glad I am not the only one that worries about things like that. For your block, I was thinking candles too, like the other commenters.
Okay that is too funny!Maybe detach them from the columns and just make a row of them across the light area but not touching the columns. I am off to a UFO day. I decided today to try to baste two tops and ready one other backing for quilting.
Oh dear, I had a bit of a laugh as soon as I saw the photo. You are probably right to leave it out, too many connotations. I’ve just finished a jelly roll top and posted it away for quilting. I lack skill in that area but I suppose I’ll never learn if I don’t give it a go.

OMG- I thought the same thing!! =0. Maybe add some more yo yos? Right now there is too much trunk and not enough leaves and branches
