Slow Sunday Stitching

Thanks for dropping by the weekly hand stitching party where we're all about needles, threads, fabric, inspiration and self care! There is no advertising here, no black friday sales, no machines to give us grief, and no stress whatsoever! It's just pure relaxation, taking deep breaths, and taking one slow stitch at a time.

I am trying to work on Christmas gifts for my nieces and nephews. Every year I make little gifts for them, everything from photo calendarsfabric bagspillowsluggage tags, to fabric bowlsmug mats, and pillowcasesIt's a challenge I enjoy, trying to think of something special to make, and then making about a dozen of the same thing. Doesn't this look like a Christmas wreath?
It's not supposed to!

This year I'm knitting a special gift (to remain nameless in case I can't actually figure it out!) My knitting ninja friend Gayle has been teaching me how to knit on 4 needles. Knitting with 4 needles actually means knitting with 5. The stitches sit on 4 of the needles and 1 of them is a transition needle. It's very complicated!

And my FNSI "friends" recently freaked me out by calculating the number of items I have to make and the number of days there are left until Christmas... yikes! It means that I have to finish one item every 2 days for the next month. Take a deep breath. Breathe in. Breathe out.
Slow Sunday Stitching is stress free!

What are you hand stitching today? Are you working on any hand made gifts for Christmas and starting to wonder if chosing a slow stitching project was a wise choice?!?! LOL

  1. So far, so good on knitting on the DPNs. Your stitches are nice and even. Coincidentally, My hand stitching gift is going so slow, I wonder if I'll have anything to post today. Lol. Best wishes on your handmade gifts.

  2. Once the first knitted project is finished, the rest will go a lot faster. That's the way it normally goes anyway. I hope you can relax in spite of the deadline. Happy knitting!

  3. It took some perseverance for me to knit with multiple needles, too. I've never seen it done with 5 needles. I've always used 4. I'd like to get back into it as everyone loves handknit socks, maybe that should be my goal for next Christmas 😊

  4. I have only two hand-made Christmas gifts this year. They are all stitched, but still need to be finished. Now I wonder when that will happen. I can't imagine having so many still to make. I am sure that you will get them all completed. I have used 4 needles to finish the crown of a hat that I enjoy knitting and they are very fiddly to work with.

  5. Looks like you have figured out knitting on multiple needles. I love knitting in the round as I hate the look of seams in knitting. My husband read this morning that breathing deeply is really good to keep our brains healthy. Keep taking those deep breaths maybe those gifts will get finished and your brain will be very happy too!

  6. I can't even knit well with two needles or 1 round -- good luck to you I think I will stick to crochet and bought a class craftsy to learn more stitches

  7. I'm curious as to what you might be making. If I made gifts for all nieces and nephews I would have to make x 31! I do have some Christmas gifts made, though.

Love the meme. I don't understand any of it. I haven't knit since high school when I made myself a sweater which was eons ago. I think I'll stick with crochet for now!

  9. You are making me want to attempt socks again. I recall they use multiple needles.... Hmmm. Maybe if I can get a finish of some kind this week that might become my car line waiting project for December?

  11. Someday, I hope I will be able to understand your meme. I will learn how to knit when I retire. Good luck getting all those gifts made. I have been making gifts too but can't put them on my blog due to prying eyes...

  12. Unfortunately, no hand work going on here these days--hands not cooperating--(Bad Hands!! Boo!!) But I did do some slow open seam ironing--can that count?? lol On my strip sections...I do like to iron--always have done. I used to ASK for ironing when I was younger...strange, huh??? Anyway--am enjoying peeking into everyone's blogs and seeing what they are working on...hugs Julierose

  15. OMG you are too funny and so are those FNSI friends....glad I wasn't one of them! haha
Yes that time of year is here and we are all wondering if we will get it done in time. I have given socks on Christmas that still had needles in them to be finished at a not to distant time. Good luck!

  17. I love to knit on double pointed needles, but always got the "ladder", a line of loose stitches where I change needles. Now I keep switching the spot where the needles overlap to avoid this.

  18. I started thinking on Friday about all the home made gifts I wanted to make and I decided to put them aside and start them in Jan for next year. I have felt a sense of relief ever since.

DPN take some getting used to but it is great to know how. Good luck

  19. I just love Sundays and slow stitching! Your work is lovely and soon enough you will get all your projects finished! That knitting looks really complicated! I bet it will be beautiful, though!

  20. Your knitting project looks very challenging! I'm trying to stay away from making Christmas gifts this year and concentrate on finishing up some fall projects so I won't have to stress over them next year--lol!

  22. I can't even work a crochet hook, much less a bunch of knitting needles. Hope you figure it out. I realized that I wasn't going to have time to make all the things I was supposed to make for gifts this year, so, I cheated, and bought ornaments instead. Maybe they will get the hand made items next year.
