This the Aurifil BOM pattern from 2016. The layout is by Pat Sloan and her finished blue and white quilt can be seen here. It is so exhilarating when a labour intensive project is done done done! I know that you understand how many hours went into picking out fabric, cutting out all the pieces, constructing the complex blocks, sewing the sashing and blocks into a quilt top, basting, quilting and then finally binding the edge of the quilt.
I machine quilted each block differently so it really is a true sampler quilt with each block being unique in the design and in the quilting pattern.
For the first time ever I had difficulty sewing the binding onto this quilt because there is no quilting in the borders... just stitching in the ditch in all the border seams.
Making mountains out of molehills! |
My motto: finished is better than perfect!
Here is the back of the quilt. Nothing fancy, just 3 hunks of fabric sewn together. Maybe you can see the quilting design... straight lines in the sashing and each block quilted with a different pattern.
The finished quilt measures 61" X 80".
Hop over to One Monthly Goal to see more projects finished in November. Linking up to Finish it up Friday at Crazy Mom Quilts.
A beautiful finish, Kathy! Very appropriate that your red and white quilt was finished in the year of Canada 150. Great idea to appliqué those little problem spots down.
ReplyDeleteOh don't you just hate it when that happens with puckering in the borders!! But, YES, finished is better than perfect and with appliqueing those problem spots down a bit, it works! I use that method often too LOL. Great job on finishing that quilt!!!! Such a great feeling eh?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your terrific finish!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the sensation of accomplishment! Sit down, relax and have a cup of cocoa before diving into the next project. Happy stitching!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish on this one--so many different reds...and i totally agree--finished is definitely the best!! Hugs, Julierose
ReplyDeleteI don't like it when I get those little hills either. My new machine and Accufeed foot have helped immensely, but sometimes puckers happen. You are right, finished is better than perfect! It's a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteMy motto as well! Finished is a wonderful word 😊
ReplyDeleteLooks terrific and your labor of love is over.
Fantastic finish Kathy! I wonder if using an iron with lots of steam on the problem areas would have helped to reduce the excess fabric.
ReplyDeleteIt looks beautiful! Congrats on your finish
ReplyDeleteOh I have had that happen, glad you got thru it and finished. You are so right better finished than perfect.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on a finish. How impressive that you tried different fmq designs in each square. I would never figure out what to do in each block. And I'll bet no one ever notices a little tuck.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations - another job ticked off the list!
ReplyDeletesuch a pretty cheery quilt!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish! Done is the key word!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish!

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on a fabulous finish!!! You should be so proud of this one, Kathy.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo...done is a good thing!
ReplyDeleteViewing the quilting on the back shows it well and it is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteWoohoo! Nice finish. We've all had to deal with excess fabric in places on our quilts. I pin, pin, pin, and it helps, but, I still get some excess fabric and a fold here or there.
