4 donation blocks |
the victims and first responders of the mass shooting there one month ago. I heard about their block collection from Julie who blogs over at Julie's Quilts. To see the beautiful donation quilt she made - click here.
The block pattern they are requesting is from the tutorial for "Greyscale Quilt" which can be found over at Cluck, Cluck, Sew. The hardest part was figuring out the cutting instructions to make the A blocks and the B blocks. But once that was done, the sewing was really enjoyable.
It made me smile to notice that one of my fabric choices matched my little scissors! What are the chances of that?!?
While sewing the first blocks, I heard on the news about another mass shooting, this time in Texas. I just kept on sewing. We also had a shooting in my quiet little neighbourhood this past week, and thankfully no one was injured. What else can a quilter do about these tragedies, but sew, and make quilts to comfort those affected by the violence?
These blocks will go in the mailbox tomorrow to hopefully arrive before the deadline of November 15th.

It is all so tragic, isn't it? Makes me think what empty lives these perpetrators must have to drive them to such acts.
ReplyDeleteYour cheerful blocks will certainly add bright spots to quilts for the victims.
So very sad to hear about senseless, violent deaths. I just made some of these blocks too, at retreat. One of the gals figured out how to strip piece it using one 1/2 WOF for the color and white, plus an extra 10.5" white piece for the last round. Very fast and accurate.
ReplyDeleteThose blocks look great. Yes, it is all crazy anymore.
ReplyDeleteI was planning on sewing all afternoon, but, I heard about the shooting in Texas (about 4 hours from our hometown) and I just didn't get much done at all. It's been a rough couple of months, with shootings, hurricanes, etc.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the citrus shades you've chosen for your blocks! My group is sending 2 quilts. One in rainbow brights and one in rainbow lights. Your blocks would easily have fit in with one or the other of them.
ReplyDeleteNice blocks. Hope it makes a rainbow quilt for someone who needs it.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to help by making the blocks. There are so many tragedies in the country right now. I am working on quilts to build up our reserve supply here. We gave 30 away to fire victims.
ReplyDeleteVery bright blocks, they will make a great comfort quilt. I really wish there wasn't the need for these type of quilts.
