It's time to pick up your hand stitching project and put in some stitches. You will immediately notice the health benefits of breathing more slowly, clearing your mind to focus on a simple task, and feeling more relaxed as you enjoy creating more stitches in a project that you have chosen. Even if you just put in a few stitches, you will benefit, and your project will be closer to completion.
Today's post is a Life is Beautiful update.
I have been working consistently on this quilt since February 2015 and have written 55 blog posts about it already! It's truly a S L O W stitching project (pattern designer is Helen Stubbings) and is chock full of different types of hand stitching including embroidery, applique and quilting, all done one stitch at a time.
It is a 63 block quilt and here are the 24 blocks I have finished so far. The top left part of the photo shows how the layout will look with the embroidered blocks and the alternate 4 patch circle blocks. For some unknown reason I have only finished 4 of those blocks to date, so I prepped 4 more to hand quilt this week.
Slow Down! |
I love this project because it reminds me of the values to which I aspire, and it's a reminder that wonderful projects get created one stitch at a time. I do not feel any pressure to finish this project within a certain time frame.
It takes as long as it takes.
I have all the time I need.
*deep breath*
So now we want to know what you are hand stitching today. Last Sunday we had over 30 wonderful blog posts to enjoy reading! I love visiting all the link ups every week when I am home on a Sunday. There are 2 blogs that I can't leave a comment on because the Google Plus feature is not compatible with my computer. So I want to say to Paul and to Jocelyn how much I appreciate you linking up to Slow Sunday Stitching and wish I could leave a comment to encourage you in your slow stitching projects.
An InLinkz Link-up
love how your quilt is coming along one day you will feel like working on the blocks that do not have the embroidery - it is looking great.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to see all of your finished blocks! It's fun to see this quilt come along. Have fun stitching today.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the progress on your Life is Beautiful! Mine is on hold at the moment since I can't find my embroidery floss!!! I may have to give in and look for a shop that sells it. The shop where I originally bought it has closed.😯
ReplyDeleteI too love seeing your progress on this quilt. I've added it to my wish list as it involves all the things I love including being a Helen Stubbings fan.
ReplyDeleteI don't really understand Google Plus!
Love the progress on Life Is Beautiful / the handwork, stitching, and color scheme.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the reminder about a few stithes get the job done eventually. I have put off my trailing vines mostly due to the prep work but this morning I sewed up some scraps so I can get somemore leaves cut out and get to the appliue stitches which I so enjoy. Is your quilt a potholder type quilt that is built one block at a time? I saw a embroidered quilt at a quilt store Friday that had ponies embroidered in alternate blocks it was so cute but not for sale.
ReplyDeleteExcept for two small Christmas ornaments I currently have no projects that are time sensitive and that makes the stitching extremely relaxing. Sure there are a few projects that I would really like to have finished, but there is no time pressure. I am enjoying watching this project emerge. I look forward to seeing how you put those quilted blocks together. I have always wanted to try a project like that. This gets prettier each time I see it.
ReplyDeleteLife is Beautiful is going to be wonderful. It's so great that you are slowing down and enjoying the process. It's something I've been trying to do, but hard to stick to with my enormous pile of UFO's staring at me!
ReplyDeleteLovely to see all these blocks together; they are so pretty and I like how they look with the quarter circle blocks added in a lot too.
ReplyDeletereally beautiful!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing such wisdom! I always look forward to reading your blog, but especially your Slow Stitching posts. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou described the process of slow stitching perfectly. Your work is beautiful. I love slow stitching. It is very meditative. I'm working on a boro style quilt with a foundation of old feed and seed sacks.
ReplyDeleteI love the embroidery blocks... they are so sweet!
ReplyDeleteIt's been fun to watch this project develop. Hope you enjoyed your day of relaxation. Monday came way too soon this week!
ReplyDeleteYour Life is Beautiful is coming along nicely! What a great project.
ReplyDeleteI stitched half a quilt binding down on Sunday.
