A New Clarissa Block

Clarissa #18

Clarissa is my hourglass leader-ender challenge that started with the quiltalong last summer at Quiltville. There is a new leader-ender challenge for this year, but I'm still working on this one. This project is inspired by a quilt from the 1800's made by Clarissa White Alford - see the quilt here. I just finished block #18.

And here are all the blocks on the design wall. There are tons of little scraps in these blocks!  I try to make each block a little different from all the others.
My friend Cathy who blogs over at Sane, Crazy, Crumby Quilting is also making a Clarissa quilt and you can see some of her blocks here.

  6. I had so much trouble making the hourglass units in En Provence come out right that I can't imagine making an entire quilt with them. I admire your persistence.

  9. Inspiring! I'm so glad you introduced me to Clarissa's quilt. And it's so much fun to have someone to quilt along with. Every time I see one of your Clarissa posts you get me motivated to get moving on them. I don't leader/ender but make each block all in one sewing session.

  12. I love what you are doing with your hour glass units!! I am just starting my own hour glass units and plan to alternate with scrappy 9 patches :) I usually use the project I am working on as it's own leader and ender... but I do make a bit of a thread bunny in the process at times... so hopefully the leaders/enders will stop that... thanks for posting your overall progress.. I was happy to come to your blog and see it!

  15. Blue and brown combine beautifully. Such and understated quilt that will "live long and prosper."Hourglass shapes are popping up everywhere. I've seen Cathy's, too, and admire they way you've created more designs by manipulating value. Kaja has some hourglass quilts and I'm mulling over some ideas of my own. Keep this up!
