It's a whole new calendar year ready to be filled in with stitching adventures! What will you create this year? In which projects do you want to put more stitches?
Today I will be doing some applique on my Life Is Beautiful blocks. This project was started almost 2 years ago and is almost to the quilting stage. This is embroidery block #29 that needs to be stitched to the base 4 patch block. There are 3 more blocks still to embroider.
Over the course of this project, I have become quite an expert at needle turn applique on curves. From my accumulated experience, I now know exactly how many clips to make in the seam allowances so that the circles will lay flat. This is the alternate block, made from a 4 patch block and the appliqued circle that is cut away from behind the embroidery blocks.
What are you stitching as the new year begins? Link up your blog post below and share your hand stitching with us!

Only three more blocks on your Life is Beautiful quilt....the end is in sight. Will you hand quilt it? Have a nice day and I wish you a healthy, happy and creative 2017!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Kathy! So good to see Life Is Beautiful is back under the needle and so close to a finish. I'm close to a finish too, so it's going to be an exciting day's stitching for us both! Best wishes for a healthy and happy 2017 x
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteeven though I am packing the sewing room I will take a break at some point and sit and hand stitch hexies and maybe a little more quilting - I want the quilt at the half way point on the frame before I need to pin baste it and take it off the frame and move the quilting to the square hoop in the living room. happy new year
ReplyDelete`Happy New Year Kathy! Thanks for your lovely blog. villacrestfarm@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy seeing your "Life Is Beautiful" blocks. That circle block is smart -- well done! Happy New Year! :)
ReplyDeleteI like your blocks and colors especially! You will have a pretty quilt when finished!
ReplyDeleteLovely projects, I especially like your Votes for women. Although I have no blog now, I still slow-stitch on Sunday (most days really!). I didn't make the circle-a-day quilt, but I am hand appliqueing a leaf a day instead.
ReplyDeleteI love your Life is beutiful quilt, I'm so tempted to make one, I'll have to add it to my everlengthening 'to do'pile :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Kathy! Will be spending the first day of the year hand quilting. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you!
ReplyDeleteI am planning to get at least a couple of kits done this year, but we will see!! I do plan to link up as much as I can. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year, Kathy. It will be a good goal to get all the way to the quilting stage. I hope to link up to Slow Sunday Stitching this month.
ReplyDeleteHope you had a wonderfully slow Sunday for the first day of the new year and got lots of stitching done.
ReplyDeleteI think the rose circle might be my favorite of what you have stitched.
