Did you know that I just finished hand quilting my bow tie quilt? It was such a great take-along project over the last few months, and I am so pleased with the finish!
So what will I work on now? I guess the time has come to get out my winter hand quilting project. It's a big quilt, and it's heavy and warm, so it's perfect to work on at this time of year.
I made this weird little chart to help me keep track of the quilting progress. It looks like the block quilting is approaching the half way done mark. I'm starting to think about how I want to quilt the edge blocks and the border. I do really like just quilting straight lines on a border, but is that too old fashioned now?
What are you hand stitching? Are you working any Christmas gifts? I should be, but I'm just not motivated yet!

Congratulations on finishing your lovely bow tie quilt. Straight lines are not too old fashioned. If it brings you joy, do it that way!
ReplyDeleteIt's your quilt, you quilt it however you want it quilted. I use straight lines sometimes too.
ReplyDeleteI should be stitching the binding down on two gifts, but I just can't stop quilting on my hearts quilt. And, yes, this should be the last year your quilt is a UFO!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful so far. I say do what you want with the quilting! It is definitely not out of style. Everything old is new again. So go for it.

ReplyDeletelove your bowtie quilt a finish -- I tend to stick with straight lines for borders also - some might consider it boring but I don't care, It takes a lot of time and figuring to do fancy feathers and things and most of the time I just don't feel like doing that. it is your quilt - quilt how you want :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the bow tie finish. It has a colorful mod look. Keep stitching on your longest UFO. Better finished with straight lines than not finished. I am motivated to do some Christmas sewing, but can't find the time.

ReplyDeleteCelebrating a finish - what a great feeling! Congratulations! I, too, like your 20-year-old UFO, and I do think it is in its final year as a UFO. That straight line quilting you referred to is not out of style at all; I see a lot the younger quilters doing straight-line quilting, so go for it!

ReplyDeleteIt looks like that UFO's days might be numbered. At 20 years old it's still a classic and it will be fun to be able to start sleeping under it.

ReplyDeleteI love straight lines in the border. Who cares if it is old-fashioned. It will be back in vogue sometime in the future. I want to hand-quilt the quilt that I made for my son, but I fear that if I do he will never get it. I have to get it to the quilter soon as he will be moving to his first real apartment in the spring. I love both of your quilts by the way.
