Bow Tie Quilt |
Welcome to Slow Sunday Stitching where we celebrate the art of hand stitched creations!
Did you know that I just finished hand quilting my bow tie quilt? It was such a great take-along project over the last few months, and I am so pleased with the finish!
So what will I work on now? I guess the time has come to get out my winter hand quilting project. It's a big quilt, and it's heavy and warm, so it's perfect to work on at this time of year.
Do you remember seeing this quilt last winter? It has been in progress since 1996 and therefore celebrated it's 20th birthday this year. It has the ceremonious distinction of being my oldest UFO! And I still really like it and enjoy quilting the blocks. I can't help but wonder if this will be it's last year as a UFO?
I made this weird little chart to help me keep track of the quilting progress. It looks like the block quilting is approaching the half way done mark. I'm starting to think about how I want to quilt the edge blocks and the border. I do really like just quilting straight lines on a border, but is that too old fashioned now?
What are you hand stitching? Are you working any Christmas gifts? I should be, but I'm just not motivated yet!

Congratulations on finishing your lovely bow tie quilt. Straight lines are not too old fashioned. If it brings you joy, do it that way!
ReplyDeleteIt's your quilt, you quilt it however you want it quilted. I use straight lines sometimes too.
ReplyDeleteI should be stitching the binding down on two gifts, but I just can't stop quilting on my hearts quilt. And, yes, this should be the last year your quilt is a UFO!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is beautiful so far. I say do what you want with the quilting! It is definitely not out of style. Everything old is new again. So go for it.
ReplyDeleteBy now I don't remember this current one, no, lol! You have so much going on :) It's lovely, enjoy the stitching and do the border however you like!
ReplyDeletelove your bowtie quilt a finish -- I tend to stick with straight lines for borders also - some might consider it boring but I don't care, It takes a lot of time and figuring to do fancy feathers and things and most of the time I just don't feel like doing that. it is your quilt - quilt how you want :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the bow tie finish. It has a colorful mod look. Keep stitching on your longest UFO. Better finished with straight lines than not finished. I am motivated to do some Christmas sewing, but can't find the time.
ReplyDeleteNice finish! I like the slightly off centre layout of the bow ties! I'm sure that old UFO will be off the list by the end of the winter. Have fun quilting today!
ReplyDeleteYou've been working on that UFO longer than I've been quilting. Have fun working on it.
ReplyDeleteLike others, your oldest UFO has me beat at the time quilting. Who says straight lines are old fashion? It is your quilt, do what pleases you.
ReplyDeleteYour 20 year old UFO is timeless. And gorgeous! I love that made a quilting plan. Pretty clever. :) Love your bowties. Congratulations on another fabulous finish!
ReplyDeleteLove your bow tie quilt, it's a great finish. You got me thinking about my oldest UFO, not sure I can beat 20 years but I bet I come close! LOL
ReplyDeleteCelebrating a finish - what a great feeling! Congratulations! I, too, like your 20-year-old UFO, and I do think it is in its final year as a UFO. That straight line quilting you referred to is not out of style at all; I see a lot the younger quilters doing straight-line quilting, so go for it!
ReplyDeleteGreat finish, it's nice to know I am not the only one with a quilt UFO twenty years in the making, I take mine out in the winter to quilt. I hope you get your done soon.
ReplyDeleteGood morning! If knitting counted, I'd have something to link up. Sadly, no hand stitching until the Christmas gifts are done. I love your 20-year old UFO and the fact that YOU still love ir!
ReplyDeleteLove the old UFO. I always say 'there is no hurry'.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing up your bowties. Enjoy working on your old friend this winter.
ReplyDeleteStraight lines are timeless! And there is nothing wrong with old-fashion anyway.😊
ReplyDeleteIt looks like that UFO's days might be numbered. At 20 years old it's still a classic and it will be fun to be able to start sleeping under it.
ReplyDeleteGo girl 💖💖💖
ReplyDeleteI love straight lines in the border. Who cares if it is old-fashioned. It will be back in vogue sometime in the future. I want to hand-quilt the quilt that I made for my son, but I fear that if I do he will never get it. I have to get it to the quilter soon as he will be moving to his first real apartment in the spring. I love both of your quilts by the way.
ReplyDeleteAs far as quilting goes, who is the quilt police that decides something is old fashioned? If you like something, then do it.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the finish of your bowtie quilt! It looks great! Good things come to those who wait.......perhaps that should be the motto of your 20 year winter hand quilting project?
ReplyDeleteI admire your hand quilting and that UFO is classic and even more so if hand quilted.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your bow tie finish, and good luck on the stars! Very pretty!
