Design Wall Monday
I have been slowly making some of Lorna's Kissy Fishy blocks and having a blast! I am taking my time to make each fish unique ... picking out a watery background fabric, a fish body fabric from my stash of Kaffe Fassett Paperweight fabrics, a complementary fins/face fabric (polka dots if possible), and the hardest of all... picking and fussy cutting a 1" square for the eye.
This kissing fish school has 11 fish so far, but when I saw the photo on the computer, I realized that one fish needs reconstructive surgery on her jawline. Poor thing! Why don't I see this when I'm actually sewing the blocks?!? I would have had a piece leftover and still I didn't even realize that poor fish was not sewn correctly!

Don't bother changing anything. She's just got a mouthful. Looks fine to me. What would be the fun if we were all the same.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun project! I think you could leave the fish, but if it bothers you now would be the time to fix it. That could be your "mistake" in the quilt....as tradition says there is usually a mistake in every quilt, even on purpose, right?

ReplyDeleteWell, I'm glad someone else misses things like that while sewing. If it makes you feel any better, I just finished a quilt top, and as I was pondering borders for it, I realized that I had flipped 5-6 of the blocks. Not really sure how I missed that, but did I destruct it and fix them? Nope. Left it alone (it about killed me), and decided I had put my own twist on it. ReplyDeleteYour fish are fun and colorful! I have had that same thing happen more than once - not seeing a mistake until I looked at my block in a photo! I guess that is a good reaon for photographing our quilt projects!
ReplyDeleteYour fish are adorable! I am a huge Kaffe fan, so the bodies are so much fun. It is funny how we don't see a mistake until we are looking at a photo. I like the comment above about her having a full mouth. :)

ReplyDeleteI had Bonnie Hunter's 'Celtic Solstice' all pieced with a border added before I discovered one of the four patches was turned the wrong way. I left it that way. Maybe you should just say that one fish is a wide-mouthed bass.

ReplyDeleteCute fish! How ever do you keep track of al your projects? I have lots on the go, but I seem to focus on one or two until they sort of fizzle and then another projects catches my attention. I'm sure I'd forget what size I need to cut if I had lots of projects all taking shape at the same time!? I daydream of a sewing room and a cork board for me to have a visual aid to block sizes in my projects! I sometimes know one fabric would work in a few of my scrappy projects but then for get what size I need to cut it.
