Thanks to everyone who left a comment on the Slow Sunday Stitching 4th year blogiversary celebration! There were 58 comments on Sunday, and the winner was comment number #10 who is Linda from The Pieceful Kingdom! I wish I lived there too!
The international online quilting community is such an amazing world and it is still mindblowing to me that we can communicate and share our creative journeys through computers.
However, one of the hardest parts of being an enthusiastic quiltaholic in the age of computers is the endless enticement of amazing projects and online quiltalongs. I just love them! I wrote about this in February (click here to read it) and at that time I had already started 5 new projects in 2016.
The most tempting project for me right now is Bee-uatiful Quiltalong sponsored by the Moda Bake Shop. It combines embroidery blocks with patchwork and is a very cute project. But I already am working on an embroidery and patchwork project that I really like.
Reality check - I only have a finite number of hours in my lifetime for stitching!
Melissa over at Happy Quilting is hosting a Summer Solstice quiltalong and there are even prizes for participating. Now that's a win-win!
Reality check - I have a few quiltalong tops in my UFO closet waiting for quilting, including one that I did with Melissa!
The Fat Quarter Shop has a quiltalong called Little Ruby and that looked like fun.
Reality check - I already have a quilt in progress that is similar to this quilt design!
Perfect Pairs (like peanut butter and chocolate, cake and ice cream, etc) at Seams to be Sew is a very creative BOW but only free for one day when the blocks are released.
Reality check - I don't want to pay for a pattern that will likely not get made because it involves a lot of applique which would take me forever!
There is a Rainbow Rose quiltalong hosted by the Modern Quilters Ireland that will be working with the colour wheel, so that would be fun and informative.
Reality check - I would have to do some major fabric shopping to make this one and I would rather be sewing up what I already have in the stash!
Lori is hosting a Gwen Marston inspired medallion quiltalong over Humble Quilts. I love the creativity of this and it would be so fun, and it's hard to resist one of Lori's quiltalongs.
Reality check - I want to keep working on and actually finish my Temecula medallion quilt!
So look at that! I have managed to give myself a healthy dose of reality, and it didn't hurt much at all! And I have managed to not start any of these wonderful quiltalongs. But I did think I should pass along the links just in case your reality is different, and you wanted to join in the fun!
And by the way, I have managed to keep up with 4 of the 5 quiltalongs that I started at the beginning of the year, so that's quite a good record so far!
I have so many projects on the go, and I think it's the inspiration found thru fellow bloggers. I will be doing Summer Solstice. I need a baby quilt for a new grandbaby in November, so I was able to justify it 😃
ReplyDeleteWelcome to reality!! *LOL* Congrats on your self-control.
ReplyDeleteI am proud to say that I have joined absolutely zero BOMs or SALs this year. It has been my goal for a few years now, but I have never kept it until now. I am saving BOM patterns for 2 SALs that I think I may actually make someday, but not this year!
I have many many projects on the go but that didn't stop me from starting a new cross stich project when my hand dyed fabrics showed up this week! You only live once, so do what you enjoy.
ReplyDeletedon't forget the RSC16 too !? and here I want to host a QAL, but like you I don't have time right now. ha ha
ReplyDeleteI feel the guilt of too many abandoned project to start anything new too. I did start RSC2016 and 365 Challenge that are from the net. I have placemats to make for a friend and a table runner for my MIL. Dutch Treat is really tempting me but I would like to finish my hexagon quilt before starting another hand pieced project. So I am doing good and so are you! Thanks for the links of the QAL. There's no harm in looking, right? lol. Enjoy what you already have is the key to happiness (Chinese proverb) ;^)
ReplyDeleteI like the "reality check" I was so tempted the other day to order more fabric because it was on sale - so very tempted, I had to stop myself and remember all the projects that I am working on and all the projects in my head and all the fabric on my shelves that need to be used.
ReplyDeleteMy reality...I found a list of UFO that I compiled a couple of years ago. HMMM....I still have those to do and a few more to add to the list. We need a quilt along that really, really encourages us to finish these. Or I guess I could just DO IT!!!What am I saying....so many new things as well. What is a quilter girl to do!?!?!
ReplyDeleteoh, I'm so with you on this! So much temptation and fun to follow along and be included with these wonderful fun quilt a longs, but I've been doing a major reality check this year as well! Conclusion: I don't think I'll live long enough to finish what I have started now LOL....unless I turn 106 and can still stitch! Good job for resisting! I succumb occasionally to a new project, but am working diligently on my UFO's :-)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Look at you resist temptation! Good on you, as the kids say. I’m trying very hard to resist, as well. So far this year, the only one I’ve hopped onto is the Westering Women by Barbara Brackman. But I’ve only gotten two of the six blocks done, so I’m not doing very well there. I have so many design drawn up in Electric Quilt that I want to do, so I’m trying to get some of my own designs done this year.
ReplyDeleteI'm resisting all of those as well. I am working on my Circa 2016 and a few other BOW & BOM's. sometimes even I have to say "NO". the row by Row will take precedence in the coming week. Congrats to Linda!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post. I too had a reality check recently and have quietly backed away from a sew along....It is easy to get caught up. Love that little kitty embroidery
ReplyDeleteIt's hard to pick and choose as so many of the quilt alongs are such fun. I put two on my list for this year, but gave in to a third. But the third one is my new leaders and enders project, so I don't feel too bad about adding that one.
