Design Wall Monday

Did you read my post last week about the improv strip piecing class I took at Quilt Canada with Cinzia Allocia? My project blocks and strips are up on the design wall today.
It's the first time I've really looked at them since the class. You sure won't need a night light in a room with this quilt! Wow that's a bright and busy hot mess going on there! I'm not even sure of what to do next.
Any suggestions and helpful hints you can offer to help improve this quilt are most welcome!!

  1. Ha ah! This one could be a companion to my Menopause quilt LOL. Love, love, the bright. I think this one calls for a trip to St. Mary's to visit Hyggeligt and choose a lovely pink and orange Kaffe print to add to this...that will calm it down just right! Seriously...rectangles, strips or squares of a lovely Kaffe Fasset collective print to make a nice sized lap quilt and quilt and bind and you're done :-). That's my 2c worth. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it. Hugs, Jacqui

  2. I agree with Jacqui! Some orange-y KF prints perhaps as divider strips? You should call this one "Hot Flashes" lol lovely work hugs, Julierose

  3. I think too much stripes. Maybe make more of the blocks in the middle. Do a scaled down striped border around them and then add more of the center blocks like a third border.Your 4 little blocks in the middle look like they are drowning in a pool of stripes!! I do love the colours!!

  4. I suggest pulling some more of the lime green and the other colours from the 4 centre blocks. This quilt makes me happy.

  5. My tendency would be to separate the center block from the border with the use of lime green and/or orange strips. Not necessarily the same width - just to keep it random. Either that or some chunks of fabric at the corners of what you have there, as a way of bringing the print to the outside of the quilt. Whatever you do... have FUN with it!!

  8. What you see as a "hot mess," I see a vibrant piece of pop art! Perhaps you should play with a string pieced small outer border in contrasting colors....perhaps something with block and orange? LOVE IT!

  9. Maybe just say you enjoyed the class and call it quits? Thats what did with my improv class project. Or, cut the stripe blocks up and add solid orange blocks to them. Good Luck! Bottom line, have fun, this is your hobby, not your job.

  10. *LOL* This made me think of a comment my Mom made when she saw a quilt on my design wall. It was Bonnie Hunter's "Orca Bay" pattern and I had made mine in purple, orange, black and white. Mom took one look and shook her head, saying, "I could never fall asleep under that!"
I love her (and the quilt) anyway. : )

  11. Put it all together, then frame it in hot pink. That will 'settle' it down a bit. Maybe even 2 different 'frames' like a white one, too.

  12. Some flying geese, maybe even some green ones! Or wonky triangles as a border.

  13. I like the idea proposed of using a Kaffe print to came it down a bit.
