Spring Cleaning

Sometimes you just have to spruce things up...
especially when your sister looks at your ironing board and tells you the truth about how disgusting it is. She made me throw out my ironing board cover (and the old one that was underneath that).
I didn't think it was that bad

But just look at the new one she bought me. It's lovely to press blocks on. Now that I am enjoying the new one, I have to admit that she was right.
Please don't tell her!

And while we were sprucing things up, I made a few other changes including replacing my rotary cutter blade. I don't know why I resist it so much when it's so much easier to cut with a new blade.
Maybe it's the start of a spring cleaning event?!
I hope not.
I'd rather be sewing!

  1. I've been trying to get little blades for my favorite rotary cutter and they are always out when I go..... so I 'had' to purchase a new one. I still like my old one better.... Hope it does not spread to an all out spring cleaning event.

  2. My ironing board cover is looking awful too. I actually need a new ironing board...my old one tilts towards me and the iron has actually fallen off it a few times. I need to replace it soon! Your new cover looks so much better!!!!

  4. Now that you mention it my ironing board cover looks pretty bad. I did replace the blade in my rotary cutter (and cut myself. It is amazing how much easier it is to cut fabric. Maybe I also need to do some spring clean up

  6. Hope not Kathy, I rather be sewing too. Here in Germany it is still way to cold to do spring cleaning.

  7. My ironing board cover isn't nice to look at either, at least she bought you a new cover! I changed my blades 2 weeks ago. Blessings, Gretchen

  9. LOL, me too on the blades. I think it is because they are a bit pricey and we want to wring out all the use we can in one. My ironing board cover is stapled onto my oversize padded board that won't fit a standard size cover. I have to replace it every couple of years, but I resist doing that too, LOL!! I think I'd just rather sew that do maintenance.

  10. I can relate to both. I just changed my blade the other day and now that ironing board cover needs tackling.

  11. I wish my sister would bring me a new ironing board cover. Just changed mine recently, but also changed my iron. This one gets really hot (love that), so the cover is getting scorched quickly.
Gee, I wonder when I last changed blades. Can I remember how to put it back together if I get it apart? I lay things out exactly as you did! : )

  12. Isn't is nice to have a new clean pressing surface? I don't know why we always wait until it's so terrible! I just redid mine a couple months ago and now I'm being very careful about using a pressing cloth when I'm wantonly, heavily starching. I'm the same way with my blades too--it's so much easier on my wrist to cut with a sharp blade, but I guess I'm too frugal for my own good!

  13. I love your new ironing board cover - I have to have a fresh one. And I am very good at changing blades, just makes the job so much easier (and my hands/wrists appreciate it).

  14. I resist replacing the blades as well. They are just so darn expensive.

  15. My OMG goal for March is to make a new ironing board cover...it is coming along nicely. I still have a few days to get it finished...I think it is do-able. I'm loving it, just hope it fits. Happy stitching!!

  16. I changed the rotary cutter blade before I left for Florida, but the ironing board cover has needed replacement for a long time. I bought a new cover last fall, but couldn't get it to stretch enough to fit my ironing board, so I had to take it back. I guess I will need to make my own cover to get it to fit. And I'm not going to use Mary Ellen's Best Press on the new one. It really makes a mess.
