Slow Sunday Stitching

It's the middle of the winter here, and as I write this blog entry the temperature outside is a very frosty minus 23. MINUS 23!
This is the time of year when I love hand quilting the most. A big quilt is the perfect project to keep warm under while enjoying some hand stitching.
And of course the best place to hand quilt is in the bright sun. When the sun comes out, I put my chair right where the sun beams are and soak up some vitamin D and Q!

Ahhh... take a deep breath, pick up a needle and thread, and renew your love affair with hand stitching! Of course chocolate will probably be consumed in between stitches because it's Valentine's Day!

Are you stitching a heart project today? Link up your blog post below and share what you are hand stitching. Happy Valentine's Day!

  1. Wow that is cold, but I hope the sun comes out at some point and you can soak it up with your sewing!

  2. We are in a cold snap as well - the furkids and I are keeping snug inside until it is much warmer!

  3. The February sun streaming in the windows is the best for hand sewing. A kindly reminder to your readers in the States is that your temp is based on the celsius system. It sounds colder to live in Ontario than Michigan. :-)

  4. Minus 23! Oh dear. I remember those days from when we lived in Chicago. Glad it is a weekend at least. Hopefully you won't have to leave the house too much. Under a nice big quilt sounds like the perfect place to be.

  6. It is -41 c with the wind chill where I am today. No outside activities this weekend. My daughter calls this freeze your face off cold!!! Have a happy Valentine's Day with the people, pets and sewing that you love!

  7. It really is another very cold one today. I have to go out but later when I get home I will be cuddling under a quilt in progress!

  8. We have minus 2 degrees. I wouldn't want -23 degrees. Brrrr!!! For the most part we will be staying inside on this frigid Valentine's day. Enjoy your sunshine and stitching.

  10. I love your blue and white quilt! We have been so spoiled this winter with warmer temps--this frigid air is a shock to the system--stay warm!!

  11. I assume you will be spending the day inside keeping warm - I can think of nothing other than an emergency that would get me to go outside if it was -23 here

  12. Mmmm...THE best place to stitch is in the sun warming through a window! Beautiful quilt! I'm hoping to get stitching this afternoon... only 2 degrees here in Central NJ this morning... that sounds warm compared to your area... stay warm & safe!

  13. Geez, I thought it was bad here at 3 degrees!! It's funny, I planned a hand work project to start this year for the same reasons you stated -- I had read a blog post last year about how comforting it was to be stitching with a quilt on your lap at this time of year and you both are right. Think I'll go grab a cup of hot chocolate for the rest of the day's work!

  14. Brrrr...Spring is coming, but you are right its great to have a large quilt project to work on when its cold and frosty. I love the idea of finding a sunbeam to sit in. This week in cetntral Florida our temps hit 28 and 29 in the evenings a heat wave by your standard of temps, but believe me you feel the chill so taking out the log cabin quilt to work on. Happy Valentine's Day to you.

  21. Minus 23?!?!? My eyes are watering just thinking about it! Is that the sort of temperature where your eyelashes freeze together?! I don't blame you for soaking up some sunshine, it must feel like heaven. I love the way this quilt's coming together Kathy, it looks like you've made so much progress already. Keep up the good work!

  22. We were sitting at -39 Celcius Sunday morning. That's pretty much the same in Fahrenheit as -40 is the same in both. Went into town for a Valentine's lunch and some errands and pretty much froze my face off just walking from the car to the stores! Thankfully not as cold today. Yeah!
