I am so happy with my progress so far this year. I have already managed to (almost) finish a UFO! It was one big challenge that I have been working on either in my mind, or in my hands since November. Once I got the border problem solved, and the quilting started, it practically finished itself! Well, not really but it was quite fun and I'm so thrilled.
Stay the course! |
Today I get to enjoy the wonderful task of finishing a quilt that I started in 2013. Isn't that a great striped binding fabric? Binding a quilt is one of my favourite hand stitching activities, so I am in for a very enjoyable afternoon of slow stitching.
What are you hand stitching today? Are you able to stay the course, meet your goals, and finish projects to completion?
Link up your blog post below and share your progress with us.
I too love hand stitching the binding down, it's my favorite part of the quilt making process!!i think it's the simple stitches and not too much thinking that I enjoy! And the finishing! The quilt is almost made at that stage :)
ReplyDeleteI love stitching down the binding.. I always say anything negative that happened in the making of the quilt is then sealed with the binding and the quilt... only happy thoughts from there out as it can now be washed and dried and enjoyed! Here is to you enjoying that UFO SOON!!!! :) Thanks for the linky too! ;) Kathi
ReplyDeleteTerrific print for the binding . . . stripes make it pop! There's nothing quite so satisfying to me as stitching down the binding. It's one of my favorite processes. Enjoy the day! :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy stitching your pretty binding today !:)
ReplyDeleteThere really is such a sense of accomplishment when you do overcome a challenge during the quilt making process. It really is one of the best personal rewards of finishing a quilt that has a large PITA factor...other than having a wonderful finished quilt. :)
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your binding!
Fantastic to be at this stage. Yes there is something very satisfying about sewing binding, it is that nearly finished sense of accomplishment! Have a good day!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Kathy! You did better than me on the UFO.... but then again I got 2 quilts to a top stage with all hand work so I am ok with it! Enjoy your slow stitching today.
ReplyDeleteYou've given me reason to give my head a shake with your talk of staying on course....I've had way too many "starts" lately and no finishes.
ReplyDeleteI find it amazing that the first month of the year has flown by as well, so fast!
ReplyDeleteI just knew that you would be able to finish your UFO this month! It will be all ready for next Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI love to sit and hand stitch binding also. That binding fabric is fabulous. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy stitching the binding on, how nice to have a UFO near complete.
ReplyDeleteI love diagonal stripe prints for bindings. I use them all the time, and if I see one that I don’t already have, I snatch them up. For some reason, although I love hand stitching, I intensely dislike hand stitching the binding of a quilt. It might be that by the time I get to that stage, I just want it to be done. I’ll be working on La Passacaglia again today.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!! That is indeed a great feeling :). I'm binding one today that I started back in 2009 - hooray for UFO finishes!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what happened to January, but I hope to get a lot more finished in February! Congrats on your finish!
ReplyDeleteStitching binding seems such a long way off! I can't wait to get to this stage. I've entered your linky party, its the first time I've ever done that so I hope its right. I'll go check out some other blogs now too :)
ReplyDeleteIt sure is about staying the course, isn't it! The little gains are large ones when it comes to slow stitching because of the results. Beautiful hand worked piece and a lot of time to relax and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour binding choice looks great! I love the hand-stitching AFTER the challenge of stitching the binding to the front. (I'm always concerned I'll end up with a wavy quilt.)
ReplyDeleteStaying the course is so much easier for me when I love the quilt -- the blocks, the fabric, the colors, etc. When I'm hesitant or not completely committed to what I'm doing, it's so much easier to lay it aside. Moving from one project to another is so much more interesting for blog readers, though. There's always something new and interesting to see when quilt bloggers move between projects. (Unfortunately, I'm staying the course with the star quilt I'm working on and it must be agonizing for my few readers to see so many variations on the theme of this star quilt with scrappy backgrounds).
Thanks so much for hosting Slow Sunday Stitching.

Fun choice of binding. Enjoy your hand stitching today.
ReplyDeleteA pat on the back and a whoop, whoop for a UFO finish! In the words of Lao Tzu "If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading." Hoping to join you at the finish line at some point!
ReplyDeleteOh please, Kathy!!! I'm so humbled by how much you get done - I'm nowhere near a finish. Which is a shame, because I love hand stitching down the binding too!
ReplyDeleteLove your striped binding, Kathy! Hand stitching the binding down is one of my favorite parts, too.
