I am so happy with my progress so far this year. I have already managed to (almost) finish a UFO! It was one big challenge that I have been working on either in my mind, or in my hands since November. Once I got the border problem solved, and the quilting started, it practically finished itself! Well, not really but it was quite fun and I'm so thrilled.

Today I get to enjoy the wonderful task of finishing a quilt that I started in 2013. Isn't that a great striped binding fabric? Binding a quilt is one of my favourite hand stitching activities, so I am in for a very enjoyable afternoon of slow stitching.

I too love hand stitching the binding down, it's my favorite part of the quilt making process!!i think it's the simple stitches and not too much thinking that I enjoy! And the finishing! The quilt is almost made at that stage :)
ReplyDeleteI love stitching down the binding.. I always say anything negative that happened in the making of the quilt is then sealed with the binding and the quilt... only happy thoughts from there out as it can now be washed and dried and enjoyed! ReplyDeleteTerrific print for the binding . . . stripes make it pop! There's nothing quite so satisfying to me as stitching down the binding. It's one of my favorite processes. Enjoy the day! :)

ReplyDeleteThere really is such a sense of accomplishment when you do overcome a challenge during the quilt making process. It really is one of the best personal rewards of finishing a quilt that has a large PITA factor...other than having a wonderful finished quilt. :)

ReplyDeleteI love diagonal stripe prints for bindings. I use them all the time, and if I see one that I don’t already have, I snatch them up. For some reason, although I love hand stitching, I intensely dislike hand stitching the binding of a quilt. It might be that by the time I get to that stage, I just want it to be done. I’ll be working on La Passacaglia again today.

ReplyDeleteIt sure is about staying the course, isn't it! The little gains are large ones when it comes to slow stitching because of the results. Beautiful hand worked piece and a lot of time to relax and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour binding choice looks great! I love the hand-stitching AFTER the challenge of stitching the binding to the front. (I'm always concerned I'll end up with a wavy quilt.)
ReplyDeleteStaying the course is so much easier for me when I love the quilt -- the blocks, the fabric, the colors, etc. When I'm hesitant or not completely committed to what I'm doing, it's so much easier to lay it aside. Moving from one project to another is so much more interesting for blog readers, though. There's always something new and interesting to see when quilt bloggers move between projects. (Unfortunately, I'm staying the course with the star quilt I'm working on and it must be agonizing for my few readers to see so many variations on the theme of this star quilt with scrappy backgrounds).
