This past weekend I attended a quilt retreat with my sister. It took quite a few years for my sister to be convinced to try quilting, but she is a math oriented person so she likes that aspect of it. It's not a lifestyle for her like it is for me, but she does enjoy it as a hobby. And she convinced me that I needed a weekend getaway with fellow quilters.
This is our amazing ever patient host/co-ordinator/teacher Deb Beirnes helping my sister to figure out the next steps in making her tablerunner.
One of the projects I worked on was making the blue July shop hop blocks. I traced out the centre embroidery block with a frixion pen and pieced the churn dash pattern to surround it.
It really was the perfect piece to work on while at retreat - "The love of sewing is our common thread". Of course I had get some vitamin D along with my vitamin Q, so I went outside to enjoy some stitching in the sun!
I like your reference to quilting being a lifestyle. Very aptly put. Glad you got away. Good for your sister for encouraging you!
ReplyDeleteHappy for you that you and your sister could spend time with each other
ReplyDeleteI will be getting some vitamin Q tonight when Christine comes over to sew! I'm sure a quilting retreat was just what the dr ordered!
ReplyDeleteVitamin Q on the way for me. I am headed to a friend's house for the weekend. How nice you got to spend the weekend with your sister. I haven't convince my sister either but she does a little sewing.
ReplyDeleteCoordinator Deb from St. Jacob's? See looks familiar!
How nice to have a retreat with your sis. My younger sister would like to be a quilter, but hasn't the time right now. My older sister has made one sampler quilt top and let me know that she didn't enjoy a single thing about quilting. : )
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching project.
"A quilting lifestyle" .... yep, that about covers it! What a blessing to be able to share your love of quilting at a retreat with your sister! And love that little stitchery - perfect!
ReplyDeleteVitamin Q & D are perfect for a Retreat! Glad your sister saw your NEED and went along to play. I have the need but my Sister is on her Mission in SLC. It'swill be another Stay-cation Retreat this week for me. Gotta finish something before the Mystery starts.
ReplyDeleteIt must be so lovely to have a quilting sister - neither of mine can even sew a button on! And they still get my mum to do any sewing for them (one sister's in her late 30's and the other in her late 40's, no hope!). I love your embroidered blocks Kathy and what a sweet sentiment in this one. Great new photo in your header too - looks like the perfect place to sit and read a book to me...although I'm surprised you're reading and not embroidering! Have a lovely weekend, see you Sunday :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun retreat, even better to share it with your sister.
