New Quiltville Mystery

It's an exciting time when Bonnie announces the next Quiltville mystery! Did you see the post with the fabric requirements? Click here to read all about it. The project is called Allietare - if you go to Google translate here and click on the "listen" button, you can hear how it's pronounced. It's a fun word to say and I am practising my annunciation just in case anyone asks me!
I have been a Quiltville groupie for a long time, and eagerly anticipate the beginning of a new mystery. You can see the previous Quiltville mysteries I have made between 2008 and 2014 on this blog post. It feels like my annual jigsaw puzzle adventure and as we all know, some puzzles are much harder than others! And that's why some quilts are finished within the same year, and some remain in a UFO state years later. But they will all become finished quilts eventually.

Last year's mystery was called Grand Illusion. I used yardage and went way outside of the colour recommendation so I could use up some old fabric in the stash. Bad decision. Sewing yardage is not nearly as much fun for me as working with scraps. And I ended up disliking the green fabric I had chosen. Eventually I had to unsew and completely remove the green.
Then I felt that my version was a bit frenetic and I changed my layout.  Fast forward to today, and I don't even know where it is! I will excavate this month and try to find it. Maybe it will have become more beautiful in the meantime?

I did recently finish the 2012 mystery called Easy Street and this quilt is so bright it's like having a quilted night light!
By the way...allietare means "to cheer up" or to make someone happy. Bonnie Hunter is the Allietare of the quilting world!
Are you up for the challenge of the new mystery?!?

  1. I'm trying to not get lured in this year! But it's so difficult, lol. I haven't got the border done on last year's mystery and I'm also starting a monthly mystery at my LQS in Waterford in November. Hmmm, we'll see!

  2. I save the downloads from Bonnie's Mystery quilts, but I've never made any of them. I don't want to waste time sewing something I won't like. I'm amazed she get so many quilts completed, she is so busy!

  3. You bet I am! Went through the stash the other day and found more than I thought I would. I did have to pick up a few pieces to "enhance" what I found. It helped that there was a sale at my local quilt store.

  4. funny! I was just looking at her site the other day, not that I think I can join this year, but I'm a sucker for her mysteries, so at least I will download each clue and see if I get around to it. I made the one last year in yardage too and 1/4 the size, I do love how it turned out, it's fun and funky! will look at the new link!

  5. Love your description of your experience with Grand Illusion!! So funny but true! I made Celtic Solstice in repos I already had & got it done because I had foot surgery & couldn't drive. Not so sure I'd get this year's done--several projects in the works now already. Good luck!

  6. Waiting patiently. Getting my Christmas stitching all done so I can spend time sewing each step as it comes. I haven't chosen any fabric but I have my color cards. Thinking, thinking....

  7. I didn't 'discover' Quiltville until about four years ago so Orca Bay was my first 'follwoing' of her Mystery Quilts. I didn't make it, but printed all the steps. Since then, I've done the last three mysteries, but have have only reached the flimsy stage with them...but that's the story with most of my quilts! I've so much other stuff that needs to be done, but will probably do Allietare any way - I've already picked up the paint chips :) It's always a joy to follow along with Bonnie.

  8. Hoping to join in this year. I expect I will mix up the colours and hear what you say about using the scraps - I agree. I think Grand Illusion was a frenetic colour scheme anyway! Yours looks great.

  9. I love Bonnie's blog, but I'm not sure about mystery quilts....I don't like surprises! But I should realise by now that a surprise quilt with Bonnie is going to be wonderful whatever it becomes! I love your versions - Easy Street really grabs my attention, you did such a wonderful job with the colours you chose. It's fantastic!

  11. I shopped the stash and picked out my colours. I'm going sort of my own way on this one. Blue for Red, Green for Gold, and Burgundy for Grey. Can't wait to get started!!

  13. This year will be my third go at one of Bonnie's mysteries. I've got the fabric picked out and ready to go. I'm changing the colors so I can donate this one to Quilts of Valor.
