Crazy Mom Quilts, written by Amanda Jean Nyberg, has been one of my favourite blogs for years. Her lifestyle, her writing style and her quilting style all resonate with me. I love to read what she's up to in her sewing room, and her book Sunday Morning Quilts is one of my all time faves. She is having a link up to celebrate her blogiversary, so I thought it would be fun to note some of the ways she has influenced my quilting.
Here is one of my quilts made from a pattern called "Up, up and away" from Amanda's book. I call it "The Accidental Quilt" because I really had no intentions of making this quilt until the perfect fabric was gifted to me at the same time as I was reading the book. This quilt was hand quilted.
In 2011 I was totally inspired by a pile of scraps to make my own version of her Ticker Tape quilt. It turned out to be one of my most memorable quilts (for me). It is also the only machine stitched raw edge applique quilts I've made. My ticker tape quilt is called "Shattered" and was finished in 2013.
I have been inspired by so many things on Amanda's blog including her quilting designs. I especially enjoyed all her writing about the spiral design. Click here for the free tutorial that I'm sure you will want to try.
Last year I used this design to quilt one of my UFO's called Sunflower Mystery. Here is the quilt from the back that shows the design.
Another one of my favourite quilts was made during a fun quiltalong in 2011 that was hosted by Amanda. Click here to find the links. It is called "36 Patch Quilt" and is a wonderful scrap quilt. I finished my version in November 2012, and it is another one of my favourite quilts that I hand quilted.
And my most recent Crazy Mom inspired project is of course the Vortex. That was one CRAZY project Amanda Jean! But of course, I loved it and just had to make one. Remember the "Mash or Sash" blog post? I decided to mash it, but haven't actually done the sewing yet. Soon.
Amanda, I can't thank you enough for all the fun and inspiration you have shared with me over the years. Cheers to you on your blogiversary and I hope there will be many more years of quilting and blogging to come!
All these? Wow! I'm currently making her Bright Birch Trees quilt and am having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for posting those quilts! I have a lot of scraps that could benefit from a ticker tape style quilt. And so, the inspiration is passed on, from quilter to quilter ;)
ReplyDeleteLooks like that is a book I should have in my library!! Love those scrap quilts, makes my heart sing!!
ReplyDeleteI too have followed her blog for sometime and enjoy seeing her work and was pleased to see she has her own fabric line now - an accomplishment for sure!
ReplyDeleteThanks for such a sweet post! I loved seeing all the quilts you've made! They are all wonderful! I like the shattered take on the ticker tape! And the up up and away is simply gorgeous! Thanks for your post! xoxox
ReplyDeleteShe is amazing. You have done a great job with the quilt inspiration.
ReplyDeleteGreat Quilts you have made and some even Hand Quilted, You are a good example to me! I'll have to go check out her Blog.
ReplyDeleteWonderful quilts - I especially like your first quilt Up, Up and Away it's so beautifully calming!
ReplyDeleteI have her book and could happily work my way through it! Presently busy with Scrap Vortex.
Wonderful quilts. I have added that blog to my list to read. I know I have been there before and didn't save it so thank you! I love your Ticker Tape quilt!
ReplyDeleteShe has inspired you to make some great quilts. Kathy! I think we all have someone that seems to trigger our creative muse.
ReplyDeleteI've been following her for quite a while now too, and I love her book too. You've done a wonderful job with her patterns. You have such beautiful quilts! I wound up on the "I want to make that. And that. And that" phase and never got around to actually making any of her patterns yet, but I agree with you - she is very inspirational. This is a very sweet tribute to her.
ReplyDeleteShe has a great blog! Lots of inspiration for sure. I've enjoyed following along with the projects you've made from her influence.:)
ReplyDeleteI <3 Amanda Jean, too! Her style really speaks to me. I've made many of her patterns or made things inspired by hers. She spoke at my guild a few months ago and I was tickled pink. :)
ReplyDeleteOh yes, Amanda Jean has a really great blog. I love her writing style too. And her (frankly mad!) obsession with pin cushions!!! I think the quilt I'm hand quilting at the moment began as a quilt along with Amanda Jean some seven years ago - no doubt everyone else has finished up, ha! :D It's lovely to see how she's inspired your quilts too; your triangles and vortex are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI just started following Crazy Mom quilts just recently. These are some of my favorites that you've made. I have that 16 patch on my bucket list.
