UFO of the month (again!)

Time to fess up... in spite of the pep talk I gave myself at the beginning of September, I didn't come anywhere close to finishing that UFO.  I still hope to finish this mystery quilt from 2012 in time for Bonnie's new mystery which starts in November.

A plain border is sewn on, and the pin basting has been started. I decided to just stitch-in-the-ditch on all the diagonal seams for the quilting. It will be a boring process of quilting about 80+ straight lines, while shoving that big 90" quilt through the throat of my poor old domestic sewing machine over and over. I make it sound so appealing, don't I? It'll be a good upper body workout for sure.
To see more goals for finished quilts, hop over to A Lovely Year of Finishes. Also linking up to Val's UFO party and Jo's Bonnie Hunter UFO Challenge. Surely with all this public accountability I will be able to finish this quilt!

  1. Cathy could quilt it for you and then you would just have binding and label for the finish! I don't think I have the upper body strength for a quilt this big!

  2. Good luck. I've recently quilted a 120" quilt on my domestic. I've got upper arms like popeye now

  3. It might be a boring process but the end result will be exciting!

  4. Check out Jo's Country Junction. She is talking about having a Bonnie Hunter finish up to finish quilts made from Bonnie's patterns before Bonnie's next mystery quilt comes out. At least she mentioned it several posts ago and said she does this every year. The encouragement may propel you on.

  6. Sad to say that is the ONLY Bonnie mystery I've ever done and it's unfinished like yours. Borders are all that's needed..but that's usually the holdup on any of my tops! I LOVE it so need to finish it. Not a fan of mysteries as (especially with Bonnie's) I'd HATE to put that much work into something and not love it.

  8. My Easy Street is still only halfway assembled. I keep it well hidden to bury my guilt.
At least you have a quilting plan, however "appealing" you may make it sound. : )

  9. That meme made me laugh. I can just see someone sticking their head around the corner of my sewing room, chanting "Is it done yet, is it done yet?"

  11. "appealing"??? NOT for me. That's why I Begged for my Betsy. Too bad she is being BAD and needs some TLC- waiting for the TECH guy to make a house call. Love your cartoon! The f-word...

  12. best of luck with the quilting, I have given up trying to quilt my flimsies for now as I can not do it well enough, struggle so much trying to feed the quilt through so the stitches are so many different sizes!

  13. If you do a little bit each day you be surprised how quickly it may go (it always looks like so much BEFORE we start). Do you FMQ? Bonnie's quilts are so busy that they're great candidates for simple stippling (actually for a quilt this large, the larger meandering is fine). I find that goes a lot faster than the straight line stitching and you're only ever dealing with the area between your two hands at any time. Add a busy print backing to hide any minor tension sins and then stuff, fluff and stitch!

  14. But you are making progress, so that counts for something. Good luck with the quilting. Doing it in small bites seems like a really good idea.

  16. That is going to be one fabulous quilt and so worth the 'boredom' of straight line quilting Kathy! A good upper body work out for me is lifting my coffee mug between a few hand stitches!!! I think I need to get me a walking foot...
