Scrappy Saturday - Brown
It's brown month for the RSC'ers.
I don't love brown (it's just so dark and colourless!) but we are learning to get along. I must admit that I like brown quite a bit more when I call it chocolate brown!
Here are the brown Alamo star blocks I have sewn so far this month as leader/enders. Their job will be to help the other blocks to sparkle in the finished quilt :)
I've also finished 4 brown blocks for the Omigosh collection.I have more than half of the double nine patch blocks finished now. That means about 1/4 of the piecing is done on this quilt - now that's progress.
Here's the pile of the blocks that live in my fridge, where they can stay nice and fresh for years!
To see what the RSC'ers are up to with their brown scraps, hop over to SoScrappy's link up.
Thinking about those beautiful blocks in your fridge is just too funny. Whatever works! Great progress on both projects. The brown Alamos would be rather bland if they were all alone, but I am sure with their bright and happy friends they will add depth and contrast.
ReplyDeletewell I have heard of quilting taking over the house but the fridge too! I wonder is it turned on? Brown blocks look good and will be a contrast to the other blocks.
ReplyDeleteI think your brown blocks look wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYou should read what Katie Pasquini Masopust has to say about brown. To her "brown" is a good neutral and should be used in at least 7 different shades and tints. That is one thing that I took away from the course I took with her last winter. I never liked brown either, but I now have a new respect for the many ways it can be effectively used.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing that pile of fridge blocks!
ReplyDeleteI like to make little 9-patches too and have been admiring yours. I'm thinking of ordering the Omigosh pattern now. I have been trying so hard not to buy patterns but this looks like something I'd really make. Thanks for enabling me! villacrestfarm@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI love your Omigosh nine-patches. I made my Omigosh in 2007 and still love it. My least favourite part was the 440(?) tiny square-in-a-squares. My family was away for a weekend, and I decided that I would use that time to tackle them and get them done!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful browns. I wasn't sure about including brown when I first started making RSC quilts, but it does make a nice foil for the brighter blocks.
ReplyDeleteI really like complementary colors so I think of brown as blended complements. But I agree that thinking of it as blended chocolate is quite delicious.
ReplyDeleteI don't do brown usually either, either in the home or my wardrobe, but your blocks look really nice, warm and chocolatey :-)
ReplyDeleteROFLMAO--A fridge? I need a walk in cooler!! Do you keep a bottle of wine cooling with them??
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten that you used an old fridge for storage--love it.
ReplyDeleteYour Alamo Stars look very Fall-ish. And I will have to think of brown in terms of chocolate from now on. I like the dark varieties! : )
Those stars are lovely. Too funny about the blocks in the fridge - so glad they don't expire!
ReplyDeleteOh I just had to have a peek in your fridge Kathy, haha! I'd say you're making great progress - and I love your brown blocks, especially those gorgeous 9 patches. (Brown is just all the colours I love mixed together, so how could I not love it too?!).
ReplyDeleteat least your brown blocks have a job... making others sparkle is important. My blocks just lay around all day watching tv and eating bon bons. LEeAnna
ReplyDeleteI like browns because....well just because. Always have been drawn to them but not in clothing. My skin tones do not like brown.
ReplyDeleteYour work is lovely. I haven't counted up my double nine patches as I'm afraid I'll be disappointed by how few I have. Maybe in Decembef.
ReplyDeleteIf you put them in your fridge, where does all the chocolate go?
ReplyDeleteNice, I like all your browns and chocolates,
ReplyDeleteI love all your little blocks. When I think of your fridge with all your neatly stored wonderful blocks, I smile because they are all so wonderful. Like you, I want to join so many of those same quilt alongs and sew alongs but have had to say no until I finish up projects I've planned for a long time, many started, WIP, UFO. So many quilts and not enough time.
ReplyDeleteYour Alamo Star blocks look nice. I've seen the scrappy link up, everyone makes such nice blocks with scraps over there!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous brown blocks this week!
