How do you know if you like something if you haven't tried it?!? It always amazes me when I am putting a quilt together that the fabrics I think I will like... when it comes right down to the cutting stage, aren't always the ones I thought I would like. I am auditioning fabrics for the setting squares for Lori's Country Roads mystery quiltalong. The more fabrics I audition, the more unsure I become. Is that because I haven't found the right one yet? What do you think?
I hate when I don't have the right fabric. I like the 3rd one down the best. The piece I auditioned this am doesn't have enough so I'll have to mix in a different fabric for the setting Triangles. Have fun.
After reading the comments I am almost afraid of saying it but I think you haven't found the right fabric yet. Teal looks great with red/orange or mauve, or so the expects say. (Colorcombos.com) Personally, I would try a blue jean colour. Good luck. I still haven't finished the blocks for mine. ;^)
I like the strips, but if you want to match them up that can be too hard and not fun so I would choose something else - like the dark teal - that looks great - I'm sure you will figure out what calls to you.
Of the fabrics shown, I like the stripes! But that would be tricky to cut out so they all line up. How about trying different teals to see if one speaks to you. Or maybe a gray?
I do the same thing. The more I second guess myself, the bigger mess I get into. It's very unusual, but I really like the teal script print with your little blocks--fun!
How about a navy? Or scrappy Medium blues? I do like the red and white stripes. When indecision strikes.... Call your daughter : ) My daughters usually are happy to tell me yea or nay on a fabric choice. : ) They can see it from a fresh perspective. And I figure they are going to inherit my quilts when it is all said and done so it might as well be something they think is cute : ) Janita
This happens to me all the time! But I do like that teal fabric. I'll be going through the same thing when we get back home again and I can start my version.
I do not like the stripes, way too busy. I like the last one, the little checks which repeat the square theme but on a much smaller scale. Like many of your other friends I also like the teal, but other teals or darker colors could work. Maybe it's just because of the bright color. The lighting in the photos makes it hard to judge. Keep trying and start eliminating some. Good luck.
So often I have trouble deciding which fabric I should use but eventually somethings strikes my fancy and I go with it. You will know the right one when you see it!
I love the dark teal! I think I pulled at least a dozen fabrics auditioning mine, so know where you are at.
ReplyDeleteI like the dark teal also. Is that the only green/teal you tried, try some more so you can see if one hits you. Love your blocks.
ReplyDeleteit is so hard choosing fabrics and the more you look the harder it seems to get! best of luck

ReplyDeleteSo many options--I like the light red, and the teal--and I even like the red/white stripe. : )
ReplyDeletehow about a black or black print?
ReplyDeleteI love that light red. But any of them will look good when you are finished.
ReplyDeleteGood luck.

I think any of the 4 darker prints would work. With them, the light blue corner squares don't disappear. Christine from Ontario
ReplyDeleteFirst opinion...snails, then teal...but really I think you haven't found the right one yet! When they all look good ...keep looking!!

ReplyDeleteI would definitely go with the teal out of those you showed. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks. Think I would probably go with a solid or near solid.
ReplyDeleteTough decision, don't want to be in your shoes. The blocks are so cute, nice mystery.

That teal one really gives it a different look doesnt it?

ReplyDeleteI too fall into this quandary at times.
ReplyDeleteIt can be frustrating, but the right fabric will eventually jump out and speak to you.
Best wishes!
What about a pale teal blue?
ReplyDeleteHard choice! I quite like the light red and the red and white stripe! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite of the ones you have is definitely the teal. sarah@forrussia.org

ReplyDeleteDark gets my vote. Followed by stripe. :)
ReplyDeleteWhere's the cheddar?
ReplyDeleteI like the dark real best, then the light red.
ReplyDeleteThe dark teal looks surprisingly good, I'd never have picked it to try. That would be my first pick, followed by the light red.
