Don't pay any attention to my very thready design wall :)
The block at the top is block #4 and is the one I just finished. It was another fun block to construct following Jacquelynne's directions.
I made a blue mark in the middle of the blue fabric. Then I positioned the 45 degree line on any pieced seam line on the block, while the edge of the ruler was lined up with the mid point on the blue block. 1st cut. Easy Peasy!
Then I did the same thing on the other side, placing the ruler edge at the mid point on the blue and white dots block, and lining up the 45 degree angle line - 2nd cut!
I must admit that I am a little worried about all the edges of this block being on the bias, so I used a lot of Best Press spray when I pressed the block and hope that will stabilize it enough until it get sewn to other blocks in the quilt top.

ReplyDeleteI love it! The embroidery is beautiful and the bird so cute! I have finished four Cozy Afternoon blocks (I'm making 2 quilts) and have the applique cut out for 2 July blocks - August got away from me.

ReplyDeleteYour Stitching is very cute. The Bird is a nice one to stitch. Sad I couldn't make this SAL with you and my other Blog friends. TOO many UFO's and project Deadlines to start something else. I'm trying to halt my Start-i-tus in it's tracks. Not being too successful this year.

ReplyDeleteYour blocks are so pretty! I had a lot of trouble trying to decide which version to make. So quilt #1 has blocks 1-3 only. And quilt #2 will have all three versions on it, replacing the plain blocks with the plain centered and embroidered blocks. So far, I've made 12 blocks and finished quilt #1. ReplyDeleteRight now I am only collecting the blocks to save for my winter project. I have multiple BOMs going on right now and Work 60+hours a week with my paying job. And then try to spend my evenings out of doors gardening and boating with my family. Love your embroidery. Gorgeous!

ReplyDeleteI decided to do the applique method for the blocks, even though the other two methods are probably easier. I think I was embroidering before the age of 5 and started sewing. I was able to make clothing by the age of 7. I stopped using patterns about 3 decades ago, as they seemed so tedious. I like to just look at a piece of fabric and "wing it!" I used the same wing it method for my first quilt at age 16, and the results were...uhmmm...not great. lisajcowell@cs.com
ReplyDeleteOh, and so far, I don't have any of the blocks finished. My crafting room was overtaken when my daughter and her family moved back in with me, and my sewing machine was unceremoniously tossed into the hallway, the ironing board folded up and thrown next to my bed, and the crafting tables disassembled and pushed into the far corners of the living room. They just don't get it. They think crafting is an expensive waste of time and money. If I hear "We are just going to throw it all away when you die!" I'm going to...
So far they are just printed out. Vacation is in a week or so, and I'll start then. Love seeing everyone's progress.

I'm sad to say I haven't started on any blocks yet. Summer is usually to busy to sew but I am looking forward to settling down this fall to work on these beautiful blocks. Thanks for sharing your version.
