Don't pay any attention to my very thready design wall :)
The block at the top is block #4 and is the one I just finished. It was another fun block to construct following Jacquelynne's directions.
This is how I cut the pieced corners using my Olfa ruler that has many angles on both ends of the ruler.
I made a blue mark in the middle of the blue fabric. Then I positioned the 45 degree line on any pieced seam line on the block, while the edge of the ruler was lined up with the mid point on the blue block. 1st cut. Easy Peasy!
Then I did the same thing on the other side, placing the ruler edge at the mid point on the blue and white dots block, and lining up the 45 degree angle line - 2nd cut!
I must admit that I am a little worried about all the edges of this block being on the bias, so I used a lot of Best Press spray when I pressed the block and hope that will stabilize it enough until it get sewn to other blocks in the quilt top.
Isn't the bird pattern so cute? It was quick and easy - took about 2 hours to stitch.
Here are the other blogs to visit to see more variations on this block:

And to celebrate the release of block #4, Jacquelynne is giving away some of her patterns to our blog readers.
Leave a comment on this blog post and let me know how many Cozy Afternoon blocks you have sewn so far. The winner's name will be drawn on Sunday... good luck!
Pretty cute all right! I love that you chose the embroidered version of her blocks, and in such soft colors.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful setting for those embroidery blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love it! The embroidery is beautiful and the bird so cute! I have finished four Cozy Afternoon blocks (I'm making 2 quilts) and have the applique cut out for 2 July blocks - August got away from me.
ReplyDeleteJuly got away - August is obviously trying too get away :) I shouldn't comment before coffee! 😴
DeleteYour blocks are looking really sweet - the birdie is my favorite so far! I may have to stitch him up on a tea towel:)
ReplyDeletelove the red work embroidery. hope to do mine soon.
ReplyDeleteI haven't started mine yet, just collecting the patterns for now..it's a very nice pattern and I love your redwork.
ReplyDeleteappreciate the redwork blocks. they are so sweet and bring an entirely different view to the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking of doing the embroidery blocks. I haven't done hand embroidery for a long time. But, it looks so cute! Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteSo fun to see yours using the embroidery option. I can't believe how fast you are to do that in 2 hours.
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your colors--I haven't started, but plan to embroider the blocks myself, so it's great to see the embroidered version! Thanks for this opportunity!
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. I am printing off the patterns, but haven't started yet, as I've had company for the last month or more, but hope to get started soon. Would love to win!

Very beautiful blocks, I have completed 3 and I am excited to start number 4.
ReplyDeletecreatedandbeautiful@gmail.com
Lovely soft colours. And of course I love red work!
ReplyDeleteI've just been saving the instructions for later. I did applique for Jacquelynne's last QAL so I think I will do embroidery on this one when I get to it. Your redwork blocks look very nice together!
ReplyDeleteVery cute, as are all the versions.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, soft colors!
ReplyDeleteYour Stitching is very cute. The Bird is a nice one to stitch. Sad I couldn't make this SAL with you and my other Blog friends. TOO many UFO's and project Deadlines to start something else. I'm trying to halt my Start-i-tus in it's tracks. Not being too successful this year.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty.... I've saved them all off. My reward next month if I get a couple of UFO's knocked off the list =).
ReplyDeleteI'm afraid I'm waay behind. I haven't started yet. I love the fact there is a choice to applique, embroider, or piece the block. Mix and match! Whatever your mood is that da
ReplyDeleteLove your stitching and have to admit that I have not finished any of the block yet. But, they will get done soon (I hope).
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt with the embroidery. The various methods that can be used on this pattern is amazing.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are so pretty! I had a lot of trouble trying to decide which version to make. So quilt #1 has blocks 1-3 only. And quilt #2 will have all three versions on it, replacing the plain blocks with the plain centered and embroidered blocks. So far, I've made 12 blocks and finished quilt #1. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
ReplyDeleteRight now I am only collecting the blocks to save for my winter project. I have multiple BOMs going on right now and Work 60+hours a week with my paying job. And then try to spend my evenings out of doors gardening and boating with my family. Love your embroidery. Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI love the stiched Blocks. I am so far collecting the Blocks and will start stitching later.
ReplyDeleteI decided to do the applique method for the blocks, even though the other two methods are probably easier. I think I was embroidering before the age of 5 and started sewing. I was able to make clothing by the age of 7. I stopped using patterns about 3 decades ago, as they seemed so tedious. I like to just look at a piece of fabric and "wing it!" I used the same wing it method for my first quilt at age 16, and the results were...uhmmm...not great. lisajcowell@cs.com
ReplyDeleteOh, and so far, I don't have any of the blocks finished. My crafting room was overtaken when my daughter and her family moved back in with me, and my sewing machine was unceremoniously tossed into the hallway, the ironing board folded up and thrown next to my bed, and the crafting tables disassembled and pushed into the far corners of the living room. They just don't get it. They think crafting is an expensive waste of time and money. If I hear "We are just going to throw it all away when you die!" I'm going to...
So far they are just printed out. Vacation is in a week or so, and I'll start then. Love seeing everyone's progress.
ReplyDeleteI am teaching my granddaughter how to embroider. So I am sending yours for her to see how beautiful the pattern is! Thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteI've been a bad girl. I haven't sewn any of the blocks (yet). Too many other projects I'm trying to get done, so that I don't rush this one when I start it.
ReplyDeleteTrue confessions; I haven't sewn one block yet. I'm finishing up a gift quilt and it's taking a bit longer than I thought it would.
ReplyDeleteI have not done any as of yet! I have an Eagle Scout quilt to finish right now! Love the blocks!
ReplyDeleteSadly, I haven't started mine yet. I really need to get on the ball!
ReplyDeleteI love the way your used the designs in the centers of the blocks. Very creative!
ReplyDeletehave been toying with how to do my centre blocks and now you have made my mind up, though mine I expect will be done in green not red. Must get going on them. That is an interesting ruler not come across it before.
ReplyDeleteThese are such lovely blocks. I am going to love this quilt when it is done! Beautiful colors and beautiful designs. I love your hand embroidery work.
ReplyDeleteDear Kathy,
ReplyDeletejust wonderful blocks, what a nice project.
Greetings,
Sylvia
Love your stitched block centers. I need to get busy.
ReplyDeleteI signed up to receive the blocks but never did. Looking at your blocks...I know I didn't have time to do them this summer. It has been a busy summer in and out of the sewing room! Your small quilt looks great!!
ReplyDeleteI love your soft color choices, and your stitching is lovely!
ReplyDeleteAppreciate seeing the embroidery in the blocks. Another great way to do them!
ReplyDeleteAm eager to get started on all of these....all safely downloaded and ready to go!
ReplyDeleteI'm saving my pattern each month to do over the winter. It's just too stinkin hot to sew here right now, lol!
ReplyDeleteLove the embroidery on your blocks and I'm with you, the birdie is adorable.
ReplyDeleteI have not sewn any blocks yet, I love your blocks!
ReplyDeletemissysaprons@gmail.com
I'm sad to say I haven't started on any blocks yet. Summer is usually to busy to sew but I am looking forward to settling down this fall to work on these beautiful blocks. Thanks for sharing your version.
ReplyDeleteKathy, é tão suave seus trabalhos! Amei as cores claras que dá leveza no trabalho. Estou fazendo com certa dificuldade, pois tenho muitas dúvidas ainda com as polegadas... aqui, no Brasil, uso centÃmetros... rsrsrs... Seu bordado me fez lembrar de quando era criança e minha mãe me ensinava os primeiros pontinhos. Parabéns! Belos blocos! Abraço!
ReplyDeleteI haven't sewn any of the blocks - yet - but I have saved them to do later. Too many irons in the fire right now. Thanks for the tips on how you cut your corners.
ReplyDeletecute, I may have to embroider also on a second quilt
ReplyDeleteLove love love the embroidery version of this BOM from Jacquelynne. Only signed up two weeks ago so have some catching up to do. Hope my version looks as lovely as all your blocks do.
ReplyDeleteThese are so cute. I hope mine looks as good as yours!
ReplyDeleteWhat a delight your blocks are to see. Love the embroidery you've done and can't wait to see the final product. Sure hope you share it so that we can all see. The colors and fabrics you've used give it a very soft and inviting feel.
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying your blocks each month. I am pretty sure I am going to have to make an embroidered version of this quilt.
