And then I learned from Kathy that blogger changed the blog settings just for fun to torture us! UGH! Just because you turn off the word verification doesn't mean the numeric verification is also off.
Thankfully Kathy told us how to fix it, so I followed the instructions, "embedded" the comments, and now we shall see how that remedy works out. Please let me know if commenting on my blog is a hassle, and I will contact the Blogger Robots and see what else I need to do to eliminate the newest hurdles. Except of course if you are a robot... if you want to leave a comment, please prove you are a human!
LOL is that why there's been capcha on most blogs lately? I noticed that it seemed everyone had it lately.
ReplyDeleteSome of it is basically unreadable and it takes several tries to get through on a blog...drives me crazy. I am WP so I just pay 36.00 per year for Askimet. The amount of spam that comes through and that is held by them equals around 7000+ each week. Crazy.
I was wondering if that many other bloggers had gotten mean or insulting comments. I've gotten a few over the four or five years that I've blogged, but I haven't put on the robot deflector... unless Blogger did it. I guess I should check.

ReplyDeleteI was going to do a post like this. I found out from my UK blogger friend, AJ (http://morningaj.blogspot.ca/) how to fix the annoying 'word verification' problem. I wasn't aware that google had done that without notifying people.
ReplyDeleteI need to go do this to my blog! But I will admit that the number verification isn't as annoying as the word verification. At least I can usually tell what the numbers are. : )
ReplyDeleteI never bothered me much. I found out that even if you don't type in the exact number it publish the comment. Once, I even clicked publish directly and it did publish it. Go figure! In any case, it takes more than that to make ME shut up LOL!
ReplyDeleteI hate the verification step as well but I do understand it is sometimes necessary so you don't get a lot of spam stuff. I too am working on Step 3 of the Mystery . Making progress... Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteword or number verification doesn't bother me - a lot of blogs get a ton of spam if they do not use it. it is simple to do and if you can not read the number or letters hit the little refresher and a new one comes up.

ReplyDeleteI had to turn on the prove you are a human thing on my blog because although I have very few readers, I did have someone spam me with thousands and thousands of comments that were identical.
ReplyDeletei don't have any sort of verification on my blog, but set it to approve messages after two days. I hardly ever get spam that way.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the info. I had no idea that someone had to do the numeric thing on my blog comments. Hopefully, I have removed that obstacle. I find that having the obstacle does not stop the spam comments.

ReplyDeleteDon't you just love the way Blogger keeps us on our toes? No, me either!!!! Some days I think I just need to go off the grid and get rid of technology altogether! But then I know I would miss my blog friends too much :)
ReplyDeletemy blog does not require verification but I do not pay for blogger, thinking from what you have said they charge you. I struggle to read the letters as they are so haphazzard and it might take a few attempts but it is worth it
ReplyDeleteThank you for this Kathy. I turned 'word verification' off some time ago and have never had a problem with spammers - they know that I approve each comment before it is posted. But I will have to check and see if Blogger (in it's wisdom...) have put the numbers there.

ReplyDeleteI'm hoping my blog posts do not have a spam checker. I hate them and have to enlarge the screen every time to read the numbers although I have not stopped reading a blog because of a spam checker.

ReplyDeleteI am SO with you Kathy! If there is word verification, I simply go away without commenting. Thankfully the numbers are clearer to read and easier to enter, but I do hate it. Must go and check mine out now....

ReplyDeleteMy little blog has been mostly left alone by spammers. I think comments are important so go through the verification if it is there. I found the words impossible to read and remember, but luckily learned that if you hit the refresh choice enough times u get numbers and that's a lot easier! I'll check my blog to see if verification has been added! Thanks for your courtesy--hope you're never forced to change!
ReplyDeleteI had noted all the required verifications last week, but didn't think about it till someone else mentioned it on their blog. I don't mind the number ones so much, you can usually read those, but the word ones are almost impossible to decipher.
ReplyDeleteGood job on spreading the word. I just thought everyone had been hit by spammers when I found more and more blogs with verification. Although I've never required it (or approval) and never really had any trouble with spammers over the 4 years I've been blogging.
