He ate the corner of one of my favorite quilts!
Yes... ate it!
As in... the whole corner is gone, without any bits or scraps left to use to repair it!
OMG!
The bite was taken from this quilt - Double Delight which was the 2009 mystery from Bonnie Hunter.
I want my quilts to be used and loved, but honestly...
why couldn't he have chomped on a quilt I don't like?!?!
I have no idea if I have any of these fabrics left to remake this corner.
All I can say is that he is lucky that he is so darn cute!
Awe that is such a pretty quilt too. The MIL's dog chewed a hole right in the middle of a quilt that the SIL made her right after it was gifted to her.
ReplyDeleteOhh I'm just waiting for the day my pup Hank does the same thing- so far the only casualties have been my sewing chair and my work shoes, he actually quite likes quilts. Is Max teething?
ReplyDeleteIf you take a couple of close-ups, maybe someone will have a scrap or two that will help to fix it?
Maybe you might just have to patch the corner and put a label on to tell the story... I think this is so funny... My friends dog attacked my pin cushion when I visited. We were so worried for her health so I don't find your eaten quilt too much to worry about... It's just a story to tell. Have a laugh....

ReplyDeleteSuch a bad little doggie :) It is really a good thing for them that we love them more than we love our quilts! I hope you can find some leftover scraps or that someone will be able to send you something to match. It really is a gorgeous quilt.

ReplyDeleteI still have the lap quilt (not made by me, thank goodness) that my dog chewed, over 30 years ago. Another dog chewed the leg almost off my one of my brand new dining room chairs (nice furniture store replaced it).
ReplyDeleteI had the same thing happen to one of my favorite quilts. What I did was round that corner and rebind it. I then made a small label to put on the back that says "Abby did it" I smile every time I use the quilt and it still is a favorite.

Looks like someone was having a good time "chomping" while you weren't looking. If all else fails why not take the hanging sleeve off (I did see a sleeve, right?) and use that fabric to patch that puppy (pun intended)up!

ReplyDeleteI wouldn't do a repair on the quilt. Instead secure the torn edges the best you can and rename the whole quilt "Max's Lunch" It's still a beautiful work of art and now carries proof positive that it is truly loved.

ReplyDeletemy dog did this when he was a puppy (I think the quilt was unfinished though) but I ended up rounding all the corners and binding it and no one knew it wasn't meant to look like that!
Well, I guess it could have been worse. He could have eaten whole in the middle of the quilt! Hope you still have some extra fabrics around to fix up the boo-boo. Such a pretty quilt!

ReplyDeleteMax! What have you done? After reading all the comments above I think I agree with the comment from the blogger in Al. If you can't track down any fabric to make the repair, round off the corner and put on the explanatory label. "Max enjoyed lunch at Grandma's December 4th, 2014." or something to that effect.
Good heavens I never heard of a quilt-eating dog! Heart rending to see a beloved quilt damaged. Hope repairs will be possible somehow! Oh, Max, how could you?

ReplyDeleteMy cat ate pieces of three blocks of my Farmers Wife Quilt. It's so maddening and distressing. I think a playpen or a doggie "play-yard" is a good idea!
oops...maybe Max just meant to gnaw on it a little...at least it's in a spot that won't show (much) when on a bed...totally something my cat would do...

ReplyDeleteOh my that is a hard one to swallow but he is so darn cute! I have been very lucky my Max sticks to chewing on his favorite toy.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of the time my 4-year-old grandson used scissors to "cut out the apples" of a newly appliqued piece I made. I patched the block, reapplied the applique and plan on writing the story of the patched block on the label!
