Max is in the Dog House

You will not believe what my granddog Max did.

He ate the corner of one of my favorite quilts!
Yes... ate it!
As in... the whole corner is gone, without any bits or scraps left to use to repair it!
OMG!

The bite was taken from this quilt - Double Delight which was the 2009 mystery from Bonnie Hunter.

I want my quilts to be used and loved, but honestly...
why couldn't he have chomped on a quilt I don't like?!?!

I have no idea if I have any of these fabrics left to remake this corner.
All I can say is that he is lucky that he is so darn cute!

  1. Awe that is such a pretty quilt too. The MIL's dog chewed a hole right in the middle of a quilt that the SIL made her right after it was gifted to her.

  2. Ohh I'm just waiting for the day my pup Hank does the same thing- so far the only casualties have been my sewing chair and my work shoes, he actually quite likes quilts. Is Max teething?

If you take a couple of close-ups, maybe someone will have a scrap or two that will help to fix it?

  3. Maybe you might just have to patch the corner and put a label on to tell the story... I think this is so funny... My friends dog attacked my pin cushion when I visited. We were so worried for her health so I don't find your eaten quilt too much to worry about... It's just a story to tell. Have a laugh....

  4. Oh dear, Max seems like such a good little guy. Hope you find some left overs so you can patch up that corner, it is a beautiful quilt.

  5. Oh Max! Yes, why does it have to be the quilts we really like? I guess Max liked it too. You are so lucky that you are cute, Max!

  6. Oh, dear! It IS a good thing that you are so cute, Max! Just think of this as an unexpected turn in this quilt's story...

  7. Oh No! And such a beautiful quilt! Bad Max.

  8. Such a bad little doggie :) It is really a good thing for them that we love them more than we love our quilts! I hope you can find some leftover scraps or that someone will be able to send you something to match. It really is a gorgeous quilt.

  9. I guess Max needed more fiber in his diet. Cuteness is really his only defense. I hope you manage to salvage the corner somehow.

  10. Oh my .... I can only imagine the shock when you saw your quilt. Oh well ......

  11. I have no idea how one would go about repairing something like that. However, necessity is the mother of invention.

  12. I still have the lap quilt (not made by me, thank goodness) that my dog chewed, over 30 years ago. Another dog chewed the leg almost off my one of my brand new dining room chairs (nice furniture store replaced it).

  13. I had the same thing happen to one of my favorite quilts. What I did was round that corner and rebind it. I then made a small label to put on the back that says "Abby did it" I smile every time I use the quilt and it still is a favorite.

  14. Yikes--I feel like I better keep a closer eye on my Granddog Stella! I hope you can fix your quilt up--it is a beauty!

  15. Oh, how sad. The rounded corner with an explanation on a label sounds like a good idea, if you can't find fabrics for repairs. Sorry, doesn't look like any fabric I have.
Yep, doggy, be grateful you are so cute!

  16. How awful! I'm not even sure "cuteness" would help. ;-)

  17. Max stay away from under the treadle machine!!!
OMG hope you are able to repair it. I think Max needs a quilt of his own so he won't chew yours. Too bad he didn't get a hold of your"chomper" quilt!!! haha

  18. What a stinker! I wish I had a dollar for every time I've told my dog, "I'ts a good thing you're cute and I love you".

  20. Looks like someone was having a good time "chomping" while you weren't looking. If all else fails why not take the hanging sleeve off (I did see a sleeve, right?) and use that fabric to patch that puppy (pun intended)up!

  21. I mean we LOVE our granddog--but...ohmygosh. Not funny! He is a cutie though...hugs and good luck, Julierose

  22. Oh no! It's crazy that he chewed on your quilt! Good luck getting a fix figured out.:)

  23. I wouldn't do a repair on the quilt. Instead secure the torn edges the best you can and rename the whole quilt "Max's Lunch" It's still a beautiful work of art and now carries proof positive that it is truly loved.

  24. OH no, Yet another reason I don't have dogs in or around my Quilts. Do put a patch over it and label it with the story. Bad, Bad Max!

  25. I like Laura Jean's idea...make the best of it but blame Max for eternity! I'm just waiting for my cats to do something similar...even though I hope it never happens. I can't even tell you how many times a day I tell those kitties...good thing you're so cute! Same for you, Max.

  26. Cute or not, it'd be the last time I'd dog sit... and when visiting he'd be outside or kenneled. How many quilts do you want to lose? You can't trust that he won't do it again.
Sorry I'm such a curmudgeon, but I know you spent lots of money and time on that quilt, and just the fact that it can't be mended satisfactorily...
    Hugs

  27. uhhhhh baaad dog.... bad dog....
my dog did this when he was a puppy (I think the quilt was unfinished though) but I ended up rounding all the corners and binding it and no one knew it wasn't meant to look like that!

  28. Well, I guess it could have been worse. He could have eaten whole in the middle of the quilt! Hope you still have some extra fabrics around to fix up the boo-boo. Such a pretty quilt!

  29. Sounds like it now belongs to Max! Max proved he loved it as much as you...

  30. Oh, Kathy!
Max! What have you done? After reading all the comments above I think I agree with the comment from the blogger in Al. If you can't track down any fabric to make the repair, round off the corner and put on the explanatory label. "Max enjoyed lunch at Grandma's December 4th, 2014." or something to that effect.

  31. Good heavens I never heard of a quilt-eating dog! Heart rending to see a beloved quilt damaged. Hope repairs will be possible somehow! Oh, Max, how could you?

  32. Oh wow!!!! Even one of my kids would have been in danger of their lives if they did that LOL!!! And DD is one of my favorite of Bonnie's mysteries. I'm betting someone out there will have some fabric for repairs.

  33. Oh, Kathy, I'm so sorry! And now to think there might not be fabrics available. Poor you!
My cat ate pieces of three blocks of my Farmers Wife Quilt. It's so maddening and distressing. I think a playpen or a doggie "play-yard" is a good idea!

  34. oops...maybe Max just meant to gnaw on it a little...at least it's in a spot that won't show (much) when on a bed...totally something my cat would do...

  35. what a naughty boy do hope you have some scraps over to repair it

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh my that is a hard one to swallow but he is so darn cute! I have been very lucky my Max sticks to chewing on his favorite toy.

    ReplyDelete
  37. That reminds me of the time my 4-year-old grandson used scissors to "cut out the apples" of a newly appliqued piece I made. I patched the block, reapplied the applique and plan on writing the story of the patched block on the label!

  38. What a beautiful quilt and that is too bad that Max chewed a whole in it but......he does have good taste! I hope you can fix it and you are right.....he is cute!
