I have been slowly working on step #1 of the Quiltville mystery this weekend. The instructions call for 100 "broken dishes" blocks, but I am only making half of the units for each step, so I need 50 blocks.
Here are the first 16 blocks finished and arranged in different ways on the design wall.
I have all the pieces cut and the HST's made for the remaining blocks (plus the 40 HST's to "set aside for another day") and my plan is to sew them tonight during QuiltCam. It was fun that during the first step we got to play with 4 of our 6 fabrics. It looks a little bit busy now, but just you wait until the steps progress, and it morphs each week into something completely different!
To see more mystery quilt blocks, hop over to the Quiltville link up. And to see more design wall postings, hop over to Patchwork Times. So much inspiration to see ...so little time!
Love the different choice of fabrics, Kathy! I thought the same thing about using more than 2 fabrics. Gotta get stitching this week to catch-up. I had way too much fun cuddling and playing with grandchildren last week.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made any of Bonnie's quilts - I always like them but I never really want to go through all those scraps and larger pieces to find enough of each color grouping - I'm lazy I guess
ReplyDeleteLOVE your fabric, love how you showed all the different settings for Broken Dishes.
ReplyDeleteWow... your fabric choices look great in the design! It's fun to see what everyone is choosing to use. I'm just an observer, but love to see the progress.
ReplyDeleteLove your color combination. I was surprised too that we used so many colors in the first unit. Always love Bonnie's mysteries.
ReplyDeleteLove all your various layouts.
ReplyDeleteLook at you trying to guess! I spent all day yesterday trying to pick my colours only to discover I DON'T have enough fabric in my stash!! haha Ted was not laughing!!I am trying to use my stash and so far have come up with blues, red, plaid with red hearts, black and cream fine pin stripe. And after all that I just need a black.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric choices. I am just kind of puttering along when I have a few minutes here and there.
ReplyDeleteI like your color choices. I am sitting this one out but collecting the patterns ( in case I change my mind--lol)!
ReplyDeleteLook at you with a distinctly old fashion look to your Grand Illusion. Great job getting a big portion done. Enjoy the journey.
ReplyDeleteYour GIMQ is looking good! Very pretty fabrics! I'm happy to find your blog again...I'm not sure how I lost it for a while. :)
ReplyDeleteI will start on mine this week :) my first mystery quilt!
ReplyDeleteGreat blocks! Get to stitchin on them! ;)
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh at your first comment that you have been "slowly working" on clue #1. The fact that you are finished with it proves there was nothing slow about your work. Fun to see the different possibilities you have tried. : )
ReplyDeleteI too was really excited we played with four colors on step one! Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteNeat blocks and it looks like you are having fun! I finished up mine this afternoon too!
ReplyDeleteIt's so fun to see these pop up on blogs! Yours are really lovely in those sweet red/pinks and blues :)
ReplyDeleteLove the colors, look forward to seeing the pattern develop in them! You're way ahead of me.
ReplyDeleteQuiltcam! thanks for the reminder, must go!
ReplyDeleteI love broken dishes blocks and although I'm not joining in, will eagerly await the next reveal. Pretty cool to play with those layouts!
ReplyDeletelooking good and nice fabrics
ReplyDeleteGreat post, I loved seeing the various arrangements. I'm like your fabric choices, lots of contrast.
ReplyDeleteI love small floral prints, and yours really get well together. Thanks for the layout suggestions, it's helping me imagine what Bonnie Hunter's design could be.
ReplyDeleteYou picked some really fun prints for those blocks.
