This is the collection of red blocks that were finished up in my sewing room over the last two weeks.
2 Carrie Nation 8" blocks,
3 Omigosh 5" blocks, and
8 spool 3" blocks.
I think I'm ready to finish up the Carrie Nation quilt and have been playing with layout options in order to decide what colours I still need to add.
It's amazing that this simple block can produce so many ideas for layout options. To see the block pattern and historical information about this block - click here.
This layout has the blocks placed in staight rows.
Here are the blocks in an on-point layout. I really like the vertical lines in this. It still needs some orange, and more green and purple blocks added in.
I think I like this layout better and will work on filling in the colours that are missing.

I like the look of the blocks arranged on point...very pretty! :0)
ReplyDeleteWell you have the chance to make more green blocks this month. ...
ReplyDeleteI prefer the on-point layout too. It is looking amazing. I have admired your efforts on this block every month, and have loved every colour you have made.
ReplyDeleteWow, I had no idea who Carrie Nation was. So interesting! I like both settings it would be hard for me to choose.
ReplyDeleteOoh! I love the on point layout! I've found numerous variations I like, but this may have to get added to the list. I may never be done so thee blocks!
ReplyDeleteI love the vertical setting too!
ReplyDeleteI do like the on point rows for the Carrie Nation blocks. You made lots of red progress last month. So many great scraps in so many cute blocks!
ReplyDeleteLove the on-point setting too. Great work Kathy.
ReplyDeleteIt amazes me how much you get done on a day to day basis! Great work. That Carrie was one crazy lady!!
ReplyDeleteLove the on-point setting - the smaller squares look like hanging beads!
ReplyDeleteI really like that vertical on point lay out - neat.
ReplyDeleteI love the setting on point - so dramatic!
ReplyDeleteOn point really sets those blocks off!! great job!
ReplyDeleteOn-point Wins for me too. What color is for August? Have a Scrappy Day!
ReplyDeleteI remember those beaded curtains we bought or made in the late 60's early 70's when I look at Carrie Nation blocks on point. Too cool!
ReplyDeleteNell's description was exactly what I had been thinking! However you set it, this is going to be a fantastic quilt. Your slow and steady rainbow block creations are yielding some stunning results!
ReplyDeleteFirst I thought I liked the first layout, but then really looked at the second. It looks like raindrops and clouds. It also reminded me of those long bead chains that used to be used in the 60's for doorways and windows. When we bought our house 10 years ago, the bathroom window had orange and yellow bead "curtains" in the window!
ReplyDeleteBoth layouts look great, but if I had to choose, I prefer the straight rows. Nice work on all of your scrap blocks.
ReplyDeleteWow! Love the on point version. So many pretty colors.
ReplyDeleteOh, love to see all these red blocks! My favorite layout is the first, but nice to see the options!
ReplyDeleteI like both settings! I really like your OMG and spool blocks too!
ReplyDeleteI think my favourite quilts are those using blocks of different sixes and yours is going to be on my favourite list
ReplyDeletelovely blocks, I prefer the straight layout one :)
ReplyDeleteBoth Carrie Nation layouts look great, as do your red blocks.
