Are you going on vacation this summer? One of the great things about hand stitching is that the projects are portable. You can take them anywhere with you! You will be amazed at how putting in a few stitches here and there will add up over time. And you will be amazed by the relaxation benefits of slowing down, and taking your time to be present in the moment, while you enjoy your stress-free hobby.
I took my hand quilting project camping last week. It was a gorgeous day with bright sunshine and blue skies, but not too hot or humid... just the perfect day for stitching!
So there I sat, in the middle of the woods, and got out my hand work bag for some hand stitching relaxation. I hand quilted a few more blocks on my "Always Home" wall hanging.
And while I was stitching, what were the kids doing for relaxation and fun?!?
Paddleboarding.
Yikes!
Not relaxing for me at all, even as a passive observer.
Ahhh.... now this is better!
My needle and thread in hand, putting some slow stitches into cloth.
I feel better already!
No matter where you go this summer, remember to take time for some relaxing hand stitching.
What are you working on? Link up your blog post below and share your relaxation with other hand stitchers.
It looks so nice and cool there in the woods picture and the kids ! Fun! :)
ReplyDeleteOoohh! I thought I was going to be first to link up, but someone has beaten me. LOL. Your spot in the woods looks just divine.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you! A little hand stitching in the middle of the woods sounds much better than paddle boarding!
ReplyDeleteHand stitching is my preferred tool for relaxation too!
ReplyDeleteI like taking my hexie project with me when we travel ... I can baste in the car during the 13+ hour drive, and I can piece them together in our condo or beside the pool.
ReplyDeleteOh that sounds so peaceful and relaxing!
ReplyDeleteI don't take hand quilting project with me but I do take hand piecing projects and well be trying a small sock loom this year also - love your quilt!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty place to sit and stitch. I did a few on the car ride to the beach a few weeks ago. So nice to have something to do on a boring ride.
ReplyDeleteI live out in the country and agree that there is nothing more relaxing than stitching outside where the scenery is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI usually take crochet projects along on camping trips.
My hand stitching seems to have been taken over with knitting lately. It looks like you had a lovely spot. Which park were you at?
ReplyDeleteI quilt outside full time and so enjoy the sounds of nature all around me.. so happy you got to be outdoors to stitch some.. and back home to stitch more... glad you had a nice vaca! Kathi
ReplyDeleteWhat a great week you had. Not my idea of fun but someone looks like they're have fun on the paddle board.

ReplyDeleteI always worry about my stitching getting dirty even when we go to our favorite lakeside resort. I bring it on vacation and rarely work on it.
ReplyDeleteOh Kath...I can't go on vacation without some hand stitching either! It is sooo very relaxing! Right now I'm just trying to figure out which to bring: wool? binding? or Hexi's???Thanks for the Sunday Linky!
ReplyDeleteSitting and hand stitching is just my speed why the rest of the crew is off doing daring deeds. I took my stitching on vacation, but didn't have a chance to get it out. We were pretty busy the whole trip!
ReplyDeleteStand up paddle boarding has gotten quite popular here. The boards are much more stable than you would guess. What a lovely setting for a bit of hand stitching. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteWe live on a lake and I love dragging my quilting hoop out to the shore and working there! I usually take a little bag with yoyo pieces to work on when I travel by plane--yes, it's amazing how much I can get done during time that would otherwise be unproductive!
ReplyDeleteHow can I join your slow stitching Sunday? The works are wonderful.
