Today I am working on my blocks from the guild class on Saturday. I finished a cross block with the blueish green as the background and am not loving it. It really stands out. I was hoping that all the greens would play nicely together like they do in nature, especially at this time of year.
Do you know that moment when you start to fall out of love with your project?
That moment has arrived.
Yikes! Should I make more blocks with the blueish green background, and hope it grows on me?
Or should I abandon the blueish greens altogether for this project? You can see my fabrics here.
Nellie left me a comment on that fabric posting warning me about this, so Nellie you can say "I told you so"!
Advice is always welcome!

Hmm...the other ones do get lost a bit, so I think it would depend on whether you want these to be a focal point throughout or not...
ReplyDeletePersonally, I'm distracted by the blue-green block. I think I'd skip those fabrics altogether, if it were my decision to make. Just my two cents worth.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the reason you have fallen out of love with this project is because of the blue/green block. I say ditch it...and you will continue. We quilters hate to give in but sometimes we must for the sake of finishing the project! The other backgrounds look great!!
ReplyDeleteI would stick to the warm greens and let those cool blue-greens wait for another project.
ReplyDeleteif it was my quilt I would leave out the bluish green block or else I would make more of them - the eye is drawn to it immediately and I don't know if that is good?
ReplyDeleteI might make more blocks with the cooler greens and see if you like them or not. But, honestly, I'd probably chuck that blue green block and only use the lighter green colors that are playing well with each other.
ReplyDeleteSorry you are dis-enchanted with it already. Put the blue block on the back for your label. Make the blocks that you like. That will make you happy!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with the rest. Take the blue/green one out and use it on the back. Then I'm sure all the rest of them will play nicely together.
ReplyDeleteI love that you made the cross blocks all different sizes! They look great! As far as the blue/green block, if you made two more and interspersed them you would have a better idea how they will work with the others. But if your 'gut' feeling is that you just don't like it, you probably won't like it with more of them either. Happy Quilting!
ReplyDeleteI don't want to say, "I told you so." It was a lesson I learned the hard way. This looks like it will be a fun quilt. Good luck with the choices. I do like the warm yellowy greens with your Kaffe Fassett fabrics.
ReplyDeleteif you don`t like it I think Mary has the right idea stick it on the back and just use the ones that are pleasing to the eye.
ReplyDeleteOK, here's my thoughts....quilting is supposed to be joyous. What would bring you joy? Could those be daisies and kisses and could you add some Os hugs and maybe some lady bugs? I used Jan Mullen's style and made a cute daisy lady bug quilt once. liberate your self!
