UFO Update - Quilting Started

My UFO to finish this month is Countdown to Christmas
2 of the 3 B's are done - Backing is pieced (two big hunks of fabric, nothing creative) and pin Basting is  done.
Next up is the quilting.
Because this quilt is made of many small blocks and has billions of seams, I decided to machine quilt this one. I am stitching diagonal lines again (like on the tablerunner) only this time I'm not marking the lines, just eyeballing it. That's "living on the edge" for me! LOL
I'm using beige thread through the beige blocks and red thread on the red chains.
And of course, I have the walking foot on. It's amazing how many stitches this walking foot has sewn and how long it has lasted (over 15 years of regular use). I sure got my money's worth out of that purchase!

  3. Good choice on the stitching ... the diagonal lines will accentuate the "around the world" setting of those chains. I can't wait to see it finished ... I know it will be beautiful!

  6. You are a bit radical there, quilting without marking! : )
I think diagonal lines are often the best compliment to a quilt, and the surest path to a finish. If I think to hard on a different design I may never get it quilted.

  7. Diagonal stitching is a sure way to keep the design and small pieces in line. No bumping over the junctions where lots of seams come together. Happy Quilting.

  8. You are such a daredevil!! I'm sure it will work out perfectly! Wanted to let you know how much I LOVE your blog header. I've liked all the pics you've had before, but this one is awesome! Must be because we are all ready for spring coloring!

  9. I just bought a walking foot for my vintage class 15 clone and am excited to bind my current project using it... hope it lasts me that long since I currently don't machine quilt... will only use it for binding and such :) Thanks for helping me understand if a project does come up ... like a table runner... that machining it via marking with tape is EXCELLENT advice for nice straight lines and uniformity.. yours is looking awesome ! Love the pallet you are viewing too! Kathi

  10. I rarely mark small squares like those! Eyeballing it is not difficult and the walking foot is perfect for the job. Mine is 12 years old :). I am grateful for needle down feature

  11. Good luck! Eyeballing it should work since they are small squares to navigate. I look forward to seeing you finished product.

  12. Every time I see your quilt I love it more! I'm with you about eyeballing diagonals! I won't even do it on HSTs. One reason I don't like using a walking foot for quilting is Haig to change the direction by pulling it through the throat. Any suggestions or tips for me?
