Well that Bonnie Hunter surprised us all with her mystery his year by releasing the final design on New Year's Eve!
I still had about 30 units to sew from step #5, but I jumped ahead to constructing some blocks to see what my version of Celtic Solstice was going to look like. These blocks went together perfectly, and the seams all butted together the way I like them to.
I whipped up 6 tester blocks, and I must say that I think this is my very favorite mystery yet! I have enjoyed them all, but the movement that is created when these two blocks are combined is really something!
And I am still loving my fabric choices, so that is awesome! I do wish my pinwheels showed up a little more, but that is not much of a concern with this design overall.
I can see on the computer screen that the top left block is not placed properly, so I will have to pay close attention to that when I'm ready to put the quilt top together.
We are having an early "Friday Night Sew In" tonight, although the official one is not until later in the month. I sure am hoping to make lots of progress on my mystery blocks tonight!
Your mystery blocks are beautiful! I love the colours you have chosen to use. Stay warm today. It is a good day to stay home, drink a hot beverage and sew! Unfortunately, I must go to work...
ReplyDeleteLove your blocks. They do create an interesting secondary pattern, so I will be interested to see what it looks like when you have more blocks done. I also love your colour choices. Great work
ReplyDeleteLooking like an impressive quilt in the making. I love your fabric choices.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of blocks so far. I do agree that the movement created by this combination of blocks is just beautiful. Love your colors. So different from the original but somehow perfect for you.
ReplyDeleteI like your colour choices too! I will be thinking of you during FNSI as I will be at a friend's house sewing along with you!! Check your email for some exciting news from me, your blog stalker!!!Have a great day and glad you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteLookin' good. There is an alternative setting with more stars instead of a square.

Looks good! So glad you feeling better and have been able to do some sewing.
ReplyDeleteOh wow, Kathy -- I love how this played out with your color combo!! It's looking fabulous so far--that's always fun when you still love your choices after the mystery is revealed!! :)
ReplyDeleteI am really liking this one too and made sure I had all the steps printed out after Bonnie's reveal. I love it in your colors!
ReplyDeleteI didn't participate this year but love your color choices! I just can't believe each year how quickly some folks have theirs put together like within MINUTES of Bonnie's reveal!! HA
ReplyDeleteYour colors are gorgeous! Makes me think of Tiger Ice Cream (my favorite treat when visiting Canada), with maybe some raspberry sherbet on the side! : )
ReplyDeleteLove your colors. Bonnie's design is a keeper!
ReplyDeleteI didn't participate, but I've been following along as I have in years past ... I think that this is her best one yet! And your colors are fabulous! I can't wait to see your finished top.
ReplyDeleteOh Kathy, it looks fabulous!! It will be so exciting to see this one done. I agree, this is one of the best of her mysteries, and your version is terrific. I like how your pinwheels are subtle, and give added depth, without overpowering the complete design.
ReplyDeleteI love your blocks and your fabric choices. I, too, have 6 blocks on the wall, not sewn together like yours, and fell in love with the secondary circle. I hadn't decided if I wanted to make a whole quilt until I saw it come together and now I will be working on it, much more slowly than you. It is going to be fun to see what other's have done.
ReplyDeleteYour colors are going to make a beautiful quilt!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your color selections! Just yummy! And this is my favorite Bonnie Mystery too. I went with the original color way and I'm loving it. Since I'm doing the king size, and had to put it aside to finish Christmas gifts, I'm hoping to have it all done and back from the quilter by St. Patrick's Day. Or sooner.
ReplyDeleteI am sewing like mad on the last step, Kathy...I am off work today, yahoo!! I guess today will be my Friday Night Sew in...I should post little pics throughout the day on my progress!
ReplyDeleteIt is looking great, I can't wait to get done with work today and get back to mine!
ReplyDeleteyours look great!! I just finished my top today, I LOVE IT
ReplyDeleteActually I rather like the subtlety of your pinwheels in the layout. Very, very pretty color combination!
