My "Blue White" machine is enjoying the chance to shine and is very happy to be living with a quilter who gives her fun things to sew (yes, she told me that!)
The blocks are now all sewn together with the neutral scrappy sashing and blue or brown cornerstones.
I am very happy with how it is turning out! My layout used 6 blocks across and 7 blocks down with 42 blocks total. I have a couple of "reject" blocks left over that I will be sewing into the quilt's backing. My next step is to attach the borders.
Barbara Brackman has published a book called Civil War Sampler about this project if you would like to sew one yourself. She also has a new free Block of the Month starting January 25th on her blog. The new quilt is called Threads of Memory and will be based on the theme of the Underground Railway. I will be ready!! Are you joining in?
Kathy, your CWR blocks are going together very, nicely!!! I'm partial to sashing and cornerstones and yours is one of the best!!
ReplyDeleteYou bet I'm joining in on BB Threads of Memory! I had the perfect fabric in my stash and have ordered the fabric for the sashing - though I'm going to use a different layout this time. Looking forward to seeing your blocks!!
Blessings and hugs!
Just love your CW quilt and setting. I plan on doing the Threads of Memory and have a FQ bundle waiting to be played with (only BOM I plan on doing this year)
ReplyDeleteI'm a newbie to CW quilts/fabrics ... I've bookmarked Barbara Brackman's blog ... I'm seriously considering following along with the BOM. I've never done one ... and am currently in the midst of 3 projects ... I'm a former one-at-a-time quilter! I handquilt exclusively, so I'm a little reluctant to take on another project ... especially since I've promised my 2 grandsons new quilts as soon as I'm done quilting my Storm at Sea. We'll see. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThe CW top looks great. I am glad that your sewing machine is happy!!
ReplyDeleteIt's not like I need to start another project but I plan on joining in.
I love your blue sewing machine!
ReplyDeleteYour CW quilt looks fabulous! I stitched a handful of the blocks, but I found it too late in the game, and then had surgery. Funny thing -- one of my blocks did make it into her book, though! I am still diligently working away at her Grandmother's Choice, which I'm determined to finish! She is fabulously talented and I love the history that gets detailed in her BOW's! Happy day! :)
ReplyDeletethe quilt looks terrific, so nice that you can make the little vintage machine happy :)
ReplyDeleteHow great they all look set together! You did a terrific job with all your fabric choices. Glad you're having fun.
ReplyDeleteThe light sashes between your blocks are perfect for this quilt. It makes the blocks look like they are floating. And I'm so glad I'm not the only one to have conversations with machines and quilts and fabrics and sometimes even thread. LOL!
ReplyDeleteA perfect setting to show case your blocks. I've checked out the Civil War blog and hope to be able to join in the Threads of Memory.
ReplyDeleteLooks so good, Kathy. I love this color combo!
ReplyDeleteI had planned on doing the BOM before I told myself I couldn't start new projects, so now I am vacillating. I think I can squeeze in one block each month. I didn't do a BOM last year and I missed it, but I still haven't sewn my previous years BOM together. Oh, I need a backbone!
Beautiful quilt top, Kathy. I'm looking forward to seeing it with the borders. Will they be blue? Gray? Something else?
ReplyDeleteMade mistakes on FNSI how could that be!?!?! hmmm
ReplyDeleteIt is coming along nicely, well on your way to another finish. The first for 2014 maybe!
What a stunning quilt. I adore the prints and colors you are using. I am so sorry you found yourself ripping but there is comfort in numbers. I rip all the time. It is like sleeping and eating for me...just a part of my quilting like...especially when I am trying to paper piece. Maybe one of these days I will get to where I do not make so many silly errors. Happy quilting. genie
ReplyDeleteYEA for this gettitng almost DONE! Your'e so close to a finsish!!! I won't be starting this next BOW. Still trudging through the CW blocks that are like yours. Maybe when they are done.
ReplyDeleteGreat progress on your UFO. Why does it always feel like so much more of an accomplishment to have the blocks together? You would think making all the blocks would be the hard part.
ReplyDeletegreat quilt, love the colours, will now pop over to check out the new BOM you have given us a link to
ReplyDeleteIt's turning out beautifully. Love the scrappy sashing, it works so well with those blocks.
