I had been sewing like a fiend last week, until I succumbed to a stomach flu that kept me in bed (and the bathroom - too much information?!) a lot of the weekend. I was able to finish all the blocks for the Countdown to Christmas mystery from Temecula quilts. Several of the blocks went missing for a while - they were in a "very safe place", which I couldn't remember! But I finally found them in my "Baby Jayne" case and my interest was renewed in the project.
Here is the finished layout as it was on my design wall on the weekend, with a grand total of 80 blocks - 8 blocks across and 10 blocks down.
L O V E this quilt!
It is Christmasy but doesn't have any actual Christmas fabrics in it. I wasn't sure about the light coloured squares and debated taking them out, and I might tea dye it a bit when the quilt is finished. But for now, I am really happy with it.
I was very careful taking the blocks off the design wall and pinning them in order to sew the rows together.
But look what happened... I found one block on the floor. I don't have any extras, so that means one is missing from the layout. UGH! I think I will put this project away for awhile!
To see more design walls hop over to Patchwork Times.
Fabulous quilt! The layout really makes this quilt. Glad you are not trying to finish it for this Christmas though.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like your piece is second in from the left on the bottom row, from your photo. It is very pretty.
ReplyDeleteSometimes a project just feels 'cursed'. Just don't put it away 'safely' again or it may be missing again.
ReplyDeleteYep, I agree the 2nd block in the bottom row of the picture on the design board. If you magnify it you can see it in the pic. Lovely quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt looks great, you can't put it away when you are so close to being finished!
ReplyDeleteI love your new blogger header, it's festive and quilty!
"murphy's quilt" anything that could go wrong...
ReplyDeleteIt looks very nice and Christmasy. I love quilts like that that fit a season or all year long. Good job. Hope you are feeling better too!
I love your quilt and especially like the lighter pieces.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on this quilt too. Seeing yours is inspiring me to push on! (and wondering how to add some of your light sparkle to my mix)
I feel your pain--something like that seems to happen to me all the time. I've been arranging my Grandmother's Choice blocks on my design wall and I'm sure when I 'm finally happy with the arrangement, half of them will fall off! Your Countdown to Christmas is so pretty--I can't wait to get a chance to work on mine!
ReplyDeleteI agree that it is the second block from the left on the bottom row. Just pull out that row and check it out. Love the quilt!
ReplyDeleteMmmm - I love it! What a beautiful design. The colors you chose are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI'd have to figure it out and gelt it done to show it who is boss!
ReplyDeleteHow did you like the way she made her stars? Was it hard?
no fun to lay it all out again. Time to sew your other Mystery. Hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteLove your Countdown quilt! I had quite a few 4-patches from leaders/enders and made a scrappy version. I've never made a block as tiny as those little stars!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt -- the light squares are a nice addition, imo. Love the overall look of this -- just beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI can see why you love your quilt - your design wall looks great!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you caught a bug, hopefully you are well on your way to recovery.
PS - your new blog header is so darn cute!
It is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI put a way a quilt once that had a block sewn wrong. Nine months later I got it out and sandwiched it into a quilt. Didn't remember on block was turned wrong till after I had handquilted the whole thing and I took a pic. Make sure you put a note on the project to remind you there is a missing block somewhere. I agree it is better to put it away until you are in the mood to tackle it.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed with the amount of projects you work every week. Beautiful production. What is the secret? This quilt will be gorgeous. Hugs
ReplyDeleteI love this quilt. it is subtly Christmasy without hitting you over the head!
ReplyDeleteSometimes it's better to walk away from a project and come back with a fresh eye. I too love the look of this quilt.
ReplyDeleteYou could stitch together what you have pinned, probably in rows. That part will be correct. Then lay all that out, and see where you are missing one. I think this will work, without having to lay out each block again separately. Hope it works out.
ReplyDeleteOh, it's such a beautiful pattern! Hope you find where the 'extra' blocks belongs without too much of a hassle. No matter what, it'll be beautiful - for this or next year's Christmas
ReplyDeleteI can imagine your frustration when you found that block. I went to a modern quilt group for the first time on saturday and they gave a tip to pin the blocks to a sheet so they do not get lost or out of order, thought it was a good idea
ReplyDeleteI love this too, I didn't join in but printed out the instructions each time. So pleased I did. It will be an ideal leader-ender project! Hopefully when you pull out the project again you will find the spot for that leftover block! (did you count right?!!)
