Why?
Because I love sampler quilts and have a few more sampler quilts that I would love to finish before Barbara Brackman or another quilt designer offers us another sampler project I can't refuse!
I started this quilt in 2011 as a 2 colour blue and white quilt and almost bailed on it because I was bored. But I found some great brown fabrics in Vermont that breathed some new life into the blocks and I was hooked again.
Today this project is a pile of blocks. I hope to get them into a finished quilt top by the end of the month/year.
Is it doable?!?
I have all the fabric I need, including some unique Civil War specialty fabrics that I have found over the years.
Look at these historic reproduction fabrics...
they are going to be part of the backing.
To see more December UFO goals, hop over to A Lovely Year of Finishes.
I had wondered what became of your civil war blocks! Glad to see they are out of the cupboard to take their turn at the sewing machine. I won't be tackling any UFO's until the new year... I saw an interesting block of the month at Mad About patchwork that I thinking am going to do. I am already two months behind but hope to catch up in January . Happy sewing to you!
ReplyDeleteWow you are being ambitious. Good luck it is going to look amazing!
ReplyDeleteLooks beautiful! It's been a while since I could check up on blogs. You have been busy as usual! Everything looks great! Take care!
ReplyDeleteHow many blocks do you need to make? You have a very good start. And at least you started. I saved the blocks, then purchased the book but haven't made one thing. And I agree that the brown was a good choice for the quilt.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely jazzed up the blocks with the brown but in a totally fitting way! Hope your blocks come together as you wish :)
ReplyDeleteyou ARE ambitious, this one AND Celtic solstice and I bet more?? ha ha, looks great!
ReplyDeleteBlue and brown are definitely a winning combination, and I love them together in your sampler blocks.
ReplyDeleteBut you know you are crazy doing this AND Bonnie's mystery during the holidays. Just so you know.
And when you get this sampler finished and don't have room for it at your place, send it to mine! : )
Can I believe you are doing this?? Yes, I can. Go, Kathy, Go! Mine is still marinating. It will be on next year's U F O list, too.
ReplyDeleteI used some of that Declaration of Independence fabric as the backing on my MIL's quilt that really needs to be finished.
ReplyDeletedon't feel too bad, my CW quilt top is sitting there waiting to be quilted, next year.
ReplyDeleteIt is easy to get bored, love the browns you added perfect for a cw quilt. You sure have been getting things done..............go for it!
ReplyDeleteYou are definitely ambitious!
ReplyDeleteBarbara is offering another one that starts in January - Threads of Memory which refers to the Underground Railroad. I am seriously considering joining in.
you can and will do it! You have all the blogs made and the cutting out and making the blocks takes the most time so yes like jody says finish and cuddle under it on 31st
ReplyDeleteThe blocks are so beautiful! The brown is definitely a nice addition. Good luck on finishing. December is such a busy month!
ReplyDeleteThis quilt is just too beautiful to sit idle... I'm happy to see you will try and finish it! Wishing you great success on your progress! Whenever you finish - it will be stunning!
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! I'm rooting for you. I don't even have all the blocks for that quilt finished yet and my blocks weren't even just two colors.
ReplyDeleteI think I'll be inspired to finish mine if I see yours finished. So, inspire me!
