Scrappy Saturday - Aqua

My friend Gail from the Cozy Quilter blog wrote about the collection of quilt blocks for Calgary flood victims. I decided to combine my scrappy rainbow goals with the Calgary project and sewed two blocks from my aqua scraps.
Cheryl (of Sunday Morning Quilts) is collecting these 15.5" blocks, which she calls 'slabs', and the full instructions are in her book.
I think this would be a fun year long rainbow scrap project to start, only I would make the slabs 12.5" which is the size of my square up ruler.
These slabs used up most of my teal/aqua scraps and the rest I cut up for spool blocks to sew as leader/enders for the rest of the month. To see more teal/aqua scrap projects, hop over to SoScrappy.

  1. Your teal slabs are bright and cheerful....they are sure to bring a smile to someone's face! Thanks for making the slabs! I am working on a red one.

  2. I'm almost finished my burgundy slab. 15.5 inches doesn't sound all that big until you start adding and adding strips.
Teal/turquoise is my all time favourite colour and your block just hit the spot this morning.

  3. What a nice way to use up your aqua. I like that little bit of white, it adds a nice consistency to random blocks.

  6. Such a great idea... I hope to get to some slabs by month end but they won't be teal as I barely have any!

  7. This block is so cool and relaxing in this color. A whole quilt would be lovely.

  8. I love your slab block. Beautiful colors and fabrics. Such a worthy cause. I agree. This would be a very good rainbow challenge project. I'd probably opt for a 12.5" block because my square ruler template is a 12/5" square, too.

  9. This is a beautiful, soothing color for flood victim blocks. I love this shade, but realize I have next to none of it in my stash. I don't think I would be very successful at the rainbow scrap challenge. : )

  10. Our guild it taking on the slab blocks too. We have a month to create some and the guild will send them onto Calgary to be made into quilts. What a great idea! Love yours too. Think I will go to the sewing room and make some today!!1

  11. Lovely slab (aka crumb) block. I've seen them around blog land and have thought they were so cheerful. I was thinking of making a couple but the postage to mail a couple of scrap blocks to Canada would probably be outrageous. A few 12.5 inch blocks for a donation quilt would be a great idea, though.

  12. Nice Kathy, I've done exactly the same thing, a teal slab for the Calgary flood relief project.

  15. Great teal blocks. I got a few done too. Yes I like your idea of 12.5" blocks. I did not have the real big ruler to get 15.5", I had to put two rulers together.
