For a quilter, you can't have one without the other! My brother has been very sick and we are wearing out a path between his house and the hospital.
Quilting is calming and centering, and necessary for me when under stress, so I have been hauling this quilt back and forth - from home to hospital, to my house, to his house, to hospital, and back again.
Until then, all he can do is stay warm, eat nutritious food, and sleep. All I can do is quilt and be with him.
Today I hope to finish up the quilting on block #9, which means I am more than half way finished the quilting on my "Journey of a Quilter"! I am so sorry to hear this...the good thing is you can be with him and I am sure that is giving him lots of comfort . yes quilting and keeping your hands busy is good for you too. will keep you both in my thoughts...

ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry about your brother and hope that the doctor can come up with a better treatment for him. Sitting in a hospital with nothing to do but watch TV or a sleeping patient can be so unsettling. What a great idea to have something so comforting as your quilt to work on. It is beautiful!

ReplyDeleteThe good news for him is that he has a sister who can be there for him. My sister has been an RN for 25 + years and can attest to how important it is to have family there to advocate for their family member and to just keep an eye on things, not to mention being there to comfort their loved one. I pray that the doctors find a solution to the mystery.

Your quilt is really progressing nicely - it is going to be such a treasure when you are done! Do you have any ideas for the border design, or are you leaving that until you get there?

ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about your brother. I'll say a prayer. I spent time in the hospital when my husband had cancer and crocheted to pass the time. Two grandchildren were born during that same time and they got quite a few sweater sets complete with booties, hats and mittens!

ReplyDeleteI stitched Red work squares when my dad was getting blood infusions twice a week and later when he was hospitalized. It definitely helped keep me grounded. You and your brother will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I just got my first BOTM for the Journey of A Quilter Quilt. Look forward to sewing it for sure after seeing how amazing yours is turning out. And I may try to hand quilt it as well. Wish me Luck.
