On my design wall is my June UFO. It is a raw edge applique project that is totally made of scraps from an abandoned unfinished project (the Indian Orange Peel). I decided to make one more block (I had finished 8) to make it a square sized quilt with 9 blocks.
As I was looking at the design wall, I was thinking of how my blocks look like stained glass windows, and I was remembering the beautiful windows I had seen atLa Basilique Notre-Dame last month.
And I was thinking about all the candles and light, and before I knew it, I had turned my lighter coloured scraps into two half blocks with candles. The two half blocks went from being an assorted pile of scraps... to being finished blocks very quickly, and the whole process felt inspired and peaceful. I made all these blocks in a "quilt-as-you-go" style, so I just have to sew them together with the sashing (which I will stitch by hand) to finish this quilt. This quilt looks amazing! When I saw the tiny pic on the link up my first thought was "stained glass windows". You are going to have a stunning quilt on your hands!
This is such a beautiful quilt! And I love the candles - the perfect way to use up your scraps to make something that really means something to you and will remind you of that great memory every time you see it!
I love the association with the Catherdral windows and candles. Made me think that this could be in honor of your brother and all he is going through. You have permanent candles burning for him.
I saw stained glass right away. Love the design process!! You have a talent for sharing your creating. I love the ticker tape look. It is funny to find out that our scraps are too big! And it is not as simple as it loos to make a ticker tape piece. Can't wait to see the finish. You are inspiring me!
