Thread

I used to sew with any kind of thread I could find on sale.
But then I found that when sewing tiny pieces for miniature quilts, the piecing was more accurate with a thinner thread. By trial and error, I found that Aurifil thread makes the best seam.
Plus my Brother sewing machine LOVES machine quilting at high speeds (oh wait...maybe it's me that loves it!) and it does a great stitch with Aurifil. Believe me, I tried many other threads that my machine chewed up and spit out.

I recently ordered a box of neutral Aurifil for piecing from Tristan threads and I immediately wound up 6 bobbins. Wonder how many seams I can sew with these bobbins? And I wonder how long this box of thread will last?!?

  1. The way you sew it won't last long! :-)
Great color choice to go with lots of fabrics! I used to sew only with white when quilting but lately I do use a similar brown most all of the time! Sure makes it easier doesn't it?

  2. That is a lot of thread but I think you will get through it pretty quick! I really like Aurifil thread too and I think it is less linty as well.

  3. That is a good bargain, thank you for sharing the Tristan site with us. The dark tan is the color I use the most.

  4. Which weight thread do you use for piecing and what size needle? I am using the 100wt aurifil for needleturn applique and love it.

  5. I love that thread--very little to no lint, strong, and I like it for machine quilting, too. Great price! Thanks for the link. I hope the deal is still available when I actually have money to spend! : )

  6. I like the Aurifil threads, too. Won some small spools. Are the threads in the picture cotton?

  7. Ou Ou, look at you.....thread stash!! I have sewn ALL my life and never knew really anything about threads until I started quilting and blogging.

Knowing you, those bobbins probable won't last very long at all!!

  9. Aurifil thread is my absolute favorite as well. I use 50wt cotton Cypress and Taupe the most often. It took me a few years to realize that the thread you use can make a big difference!

  11. At least the bobbins will last longer than many threads. Aurifil is great stuff. I find myself using it more and more. It's taken a while for me to give up my beloved Mettler though.

  12. Aurifil is my go to piecing thread. I order it by the BIG CONE from pumpkin vine corner. It is the only place (other than quilt shows) that I can buy it in the cone size.

  13. I LOVE piecing with Aurifil 50wt. My sewing machine (Pfaff) loves it, too. I have not tried quilting with it, though. The 50wt seems too thin for quilting, and I have not ordered a heavy weight and tried it for quilting. Would love to hear more about your experiences quilting with Aurifil.
