Purple or Violet?

Here is my next Palm Branch block for one of my Scrappy Rainbow Challenge projects.
You can find the paper pieced pattern by Kristy over at Quilt Play.
It is "purple" or "violet"?
In my quilty adventures I have met some quilters who don't like "the P word", and always use "Violet" to describe this colour.

Whatever you call it, I really like this block and enjoyed using up some lighter scraps of Purple/Violet. Each block uses 14 different scraps plus the background fabric.
Here are the 7 blocks I have sewn so far. Looking forward to adding in some green, yellow and red blocks this year.
It is so fun to see the variety of scrappy projects the rainbow quilters are making this year. Hop over and check it out at SoScrappy's.

  4. I think violet is the only shade that exists as a true wavelength of light on the color spectrum. Purple is a tone of violet which could be a pigment but not a true color of light. Either way, both of your blocks are lovely. Thanks for joining in the fun.

  7. Love your blocks, Kathy. Come on over and see mine on my banner. I'm going to add two more rows at the bottom to make a better quilt shape.
Are you using a varigated off white for the ribs? It is quite nice.

  8. I love purple. Doesn't matter what you call it. These blocks are so interesting to the eye. There seems to be movement as they play off of each other. What a quilt they will make!

  10. Great violet block. I always have trouble spelling and call it purple more because I can spell it better. But this new block is a good example of violet. I do not have to many violets in my scraps left, mostly dark purple. Love your project.
