Great news for Monday morning... I have finally finished my "Orca Bay" mystery top! This was Bonnie Hunter's mystery from last year, although it doesn't look like it! I didn't use any string blocks, and only made half the number of blocks.
Oh yah...I also put the borders on backwards in a creative way. But they took a really long time to attach and to get them to be the right size, so I'm not taking them off! You can see how the borders are supposed to be if you look at Bonnie's mystery quilt - click here.
All the fabrics are from the "Grace" line by "3 Sisters", which I bought on a weekend getaway with my sisters last year, so I'm calling my quilt "3 Sisters Grace".
I was really hoping to finish this quilt top before Bonnie's new mystery starts at the end of this month, and that goal was accomplished...woohoo! (We won't even mention that I didn't finish the one before that!)

Wow! When I saw the thumbnail I thought the design looked familiar -- but I didn't realize that it's a version of Orca Bay. It looks terrific!

ReplyDeleteit looks awesome! my orca top is on the shelf without borders, don't know if I WILL attach them or not or omit them or sew a solid border one, we'll see, I WOULD like to finish the top before the end of the month too, though I'm busy I love a good quilt mystery :-)

I love the way your borders look--really fits the quilt top & you would probably just stress the fabrics if you took them off!! It is a unique version & therefore wonderful!!! Wish I had sisters to go shopping with--only brothers & sons!!

ReplyDeleteI like your version without the string blocks very much. I wasn't fussed on the string blocks. Plain blocks instead just calm the whole thing down.
