"Life's too short to not have your heart sing when you sew". Well, actually it was Nicole's very wise quilt that I am quoting, and not really her (your quilts speak to you too, don't they?!?)
I experienced that same realization with my hand quilting project this week. I finally decided to switch projects and wrote about it on Thursday's post.
I have been amazed at the difference in the energy I feel working on this quilt as compared to the last one. I hope I remember this lesson when I need to...it's amazing how we "know" something and then forget it!!
Now I can hardly wait for time to
I enjoyed some wonderful relaxation while quilting on their riverside deck, soaking up the perfect autumn weather, and filling up my "almost empty" well. I always talk about "filling your well" when I do trunk shows, and this weekend I really had to "walk the talk". (For more reading about filling your well, hop over to Womenfolk and then check out interesting posts here and here).
What are your hands sewing this week to help fill up your well? Link up your handwork blog post and you will be entered in the draw for a Vintage Modern Charm Pack (stop by tomorrow's Design Wall Monday post to see what I'm making with mine!)
I love your hand stitching project! you picked a beautiful day to sit outside and sew. I will not be sewing today...we are heading home from the beaver island quilt retreat. I have done lots of sewing this week. Check my blog in a day or two for pictures of my liberated medallion quilt. I have some trimmings set aside for you. Email me with your address and I wil mail them to you. Gail
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt. Glad you found some peace and time to stitch.
ReplyDeleteThanks for starting the Slow Stitching Sunday, it's given me the push I need to pick up an embroidery needle again. I had forgotten how soothing and rewarding that type of handwork is.
How rewarding to regain that love of quilting that we all know, I appreciated how you switched words from "working on" to "being with". Quilts do bring a joy to the creative soul, your setting in the photo would be sweet framed! Sew inspiring today, thank you ~

I enjoyed reading Womenfolk it was very enlightening.
ReplyDeleteGreat picture. You look very relaxed sitting with your quilting.
Who wouldn't be at peace in such a beautiful setting working on such a lovely quilt!
ReplyDeleteNice post, Kathy!
I enjoyed reading your Slow Sunday Stitching post this morning. What a great reminder to all of us to "fill our well," spending time with what feeds our souls and our hearts. A visit with my grandchildren will fill my heart and soul this afternoon, but this morning I will spend some time in my sewing room. Thanks for the link to "Womanfolk" too! So happy your heart is singing while stitching your 36 Patch quiltalong!
ReplyDeleteI agree I need to work on what I am inspired by otherwise it becomes a chore, yes some projects become ufo's for awhile (too long sometimes) but their time comes when thats all I want to work on.

So glad you switched projects. If you don't enjoy what you are doing your hobby becomes a chore... and that is never a good thing. I was feeling halloweenish and started a new project this week. I hope to always 'go with the flow' with life and my quilting. My other projects will be there when I am ready to get back to them.
ReplyDeleteWe seem to forget that if we're not enjoying our passion then we're doing something wrong. I'm so glad your heart is singing. This is why my mantra has been "quilting puts a smile on my face and song in my heart".
ReplyDeleteKeeping our wells full is so important thank you for the gentle reminder.
Enjoy your hand project. :-)
I love your hand stitching project!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous and peaceful place to be quilting. I think your quilt looks very happy!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your quilt! I started one like this but put it aside. It may be time to bring it back out into the light. Thanks for the link up party- I really like the idea of slowing down and working on what makes my heart happy!
ReplyDeleteLove your Womenfolk links! Great stuff. So glad you found a project that is giving you good vibes.:)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful idea to take your quilting outdoors. I've done applique and piecing but now I MUST get quilting in nature *s*
ReplyDeletewhat a beautiful setting for hand quilting! lovely blog -
ReplyDeleteWell, I missed the draw, but I had to tell you that I love your stitchery projects! I have a couple that I work on in the evenings when I'm relaxing or when I'm unable to work in my sewing room. Good luck to everyone and Hugs all around...
ReplyDeleteWhat a generous, and beautiful gift. Your header is really pretty, too.
