Judy picked UFO #3 for UFO challenge participants to finish in July. "Roll, Roll, Cotton Bowl" was quilt #3 on my list which was the mystery that Bonnie Hunter hosted in the fall of 2010. There was just too much work to finish that project in this month. I was complaining at FNSI about that, when my friend Barb (yes, I'm blaming crediting her!) suggested switching out an easier project for a possible mid summer finish. Great idea! So, I am substituting a "pinch hitter" - my disappearing 4 patch has been chosen to be the (possibly finished) UFO of the month. Once I made the substitution in my mind, it all came together, and I finished the pin basting this week.
I pieced a backing (the floral on the bottom left corner of the photo) from yardage I bought on the sale table at Country Concessions during the Spring Shop Hop.I also have the binding all ready to put on, and the thread picked out, so this UFO is ready to machine quilt...hopefully a design idea will come to me soon!
Great idea - way to go Barb! That's what friends are for :*) The main idea is to finish up UFO's, not necessarily any specific one. You will love having a finish! I've done RRCB and it is a LOT of work. It's still not quilted though. I have no idea when that will happen.
I must be like your friend, I'm the PUSHER in the neighborhood with one of my quilty neighbors, though sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't... since you pinned this I assume you are quilting on the domestic machine? on a long arm I would do an all over curvey design I think, but with a domestic how about straight lines from corner to corner of the disappearing nine patches? if you want to go "fancy" the little four patch in the middle of the block, maybe do a larger square around that too that touches the tips of the four patch, though it would be a lot of turning on the machine... anyways just throwing ideas out there
Such a smart idea. A finish is always good, and knowing how much time you will have each month to plan at the beginning of the year seems impossible. This one looks ready to be done. It looks like it wants flowers or nice curvy lines. Have tou tried a loop-de-loop variation with pedals or leaves? It is a quick but cute pattern.
Cathy that Barb is a bad influence but getting things done is the way to go. I am so happy something has changed and I am able to comment here once again!!Jealous of the FNSI, want to be there one night soon!! Hugs Northern Blog Stalker Scrappy Nanna
Smart move on calling in the back-up quilt. This is a nice, softly colored project--very pretty. As far as I am concerned, you jumped the biggest hurdle when you got it basted. Oh, that's right, I forgot about choosing a quilting design. Well, since most of my projects stay in the "too be basted" pile, I forget about the next hurdle. : )
I should sub a different UFO for mine this month too. I quilted my D4P from the backing fabric design. Your quilt is so soft I could see some wavy quilting or circles in the squares. Just a thought. I have a bunch in my To Be Quilted area...

ReplyDeleteLove it and your header is just awesome!
ReplyDeleteSometimes you just have to make a switch. Good luck with getting your new choice done.
ReplyDeleteEven if it wasn't first choice to finish, it's lovely, and also needs to be finished. I think you did good (and Barb, too).
