I've had a wee sabbatical from my Civil War blocks but am determined to get back to them. You never know how long the patterns will be posted on the blog, although the pattern designer and blog creator Barbara Brackman says that the patterns will be available until July 2012. I don't want to wait until the last minute to get these blocks done!
I am making my blocks using brown and blue civil war reproduction fabrics and this week finished making block #35 Star of the West. It was an added challenge to get the striped brown fabric going the correct direction in all the half square triangle blocks.
This is block #36 Kentucky Crossroads and it was a quick and easy block to make. I really like the effect of the striped fabric on the diagonal strips.
Block #37 is called Confederate Rose. Reading the instructions was the hardest part of sewing this block...templates, digital proportion wheel, etc. I briefly thought I wouldn't do that block, but it looked so simple that I just made it up and it turned out "close enough"...no one will ever know!
Block # 38 is Ohio Star which is one of my favorite blocks. I made a scrappy version to use up some of the triangles I had leftover from sewing previous blocks. It was interesting to me that I have heard my Dad sing the song that is referred to in the post about this block.
I have only 10 more sampler blocks to sew, as I am not making the applique blocks, and my goal it to complete 48 blocks, which makes a nice layout of 6 x 8 blocks.
Love your blocks, can wait to see the finished quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove these blocks. How funny the one that looked the simplest had the most difficult directions. Glad you "simplified" it.
ReplyDeleteYour blocks look great. I am trying to catch up too. I skipped over the appliqué and a few other blocks. Look forward to seeing more of your quilt.
ReplyDeleteMore beautiful blocks! I need to get back to mine very soon, also.
ReplyDeleteI'm dawdling along on my Civil War Blocks too. Too many fun new projects on the Blogs keep distracting me... I like your Scrappy Ohio Star!
ReplyDeleteThe blocks look great, I like the blue and brown together.
ReplyDeleteBlue and brown CW fabrics together are a current favorite of mine. So these blocks really call to me! : )
ReplyDeleteAnd no applique blocks--a woman after my own heart.
Your war blocks are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI'm hoping to follow your lead and really work on UFOs this year. Barbara B's blocks are one of those projects. I made quite a few and then they got buried under other stuff. Thanks for the reminder that the instructions will not be available forever. Your blocks look great!
ReplyDeleteYour blocks are looking lovely and will all go together very well in your quilt!!!! I still have a few extra ones to make!
ReplyDeleteSo many fun quilt-alongs. I don't know how you manage to stay caught up with it all. Your fabrics are just perfect for those blocks. Love the fussy cutting.
ReplyDeletenice blocks!--I had forgotten you were working on them!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful blocks, Kathy. I like the continuation of the blue and brown! What a pretty quilt it will be.
ReplyDeleteI love the fabrics that you are using. Your blocks do look so good - they are going to make a gorgeous quilt.
ReplyDeleteLove the blocks. The blue and brown is such a nice color combination. Have fun with your last 10 blocks.
