Mystery Temptation

There are two mystery projects coming up that I want to join in on, and I'm still in the middle of the Orca Bay mystery!
I know I said I wouldn't start anything new, but I am so tempted!
First is the Fabricaholics Anonymous New Year's Eve mystery, which OK...I will admit, I may have already bought the fabric for it!
And then there is the Planet Patchwork New Year's Day mystery, which I think I could make totally from my stash.
So much fun to be had...and new projects to start!
What do you think?
Go big or go home?!?!?
Should I go for it and have a crazy, sewing blow out?
Or should I start the New Year with restraint and self control and work on a UFO?!?

  1. I've got everything ready for both. Too bad I don't have a life!

  2. Oooh, now I have to go check out these other mysteries you are talking about.... Decisions, decisions and Orca Bay is with me, too...

  3. I usually save the clues and decide to make them later anyway. Our Family gathering is always on New Years Day. This year it isn't until Monday so maybe I get to sew some. Good luck on the restraint thing.

  4. Go for it! I'll live vicariously through you.

  5. Sometimes those mysteries are exactly what is needed for the quilting mojo to stay charged (or return if it had gone missing---definitely NOT your situation).

ENJOY and feel NO GUILT :0)

  6. Two more mysteries?!? Yikes! I have never even done one--I can't imagine having three going at once. I will watch in wonder if you do go for it!

  7. I'm still considering the Planet Patchwork one, but there is one in the latest issue of McCalls Quilting that is calling my name louder!

Sorry I'm absolutely no help with that particular question!

  8. I think you should do them if it won't make you go cross-eyed. Orca Bay is almost done anyway isn't it?
I will cheer you on whatever you decide.

  10. Are we twins? Oh my, I say GO BIG. I too have set a new years resoution to not start anything new unless I finish a UFO per month. I am a little bummed that I must spend New Years Day with my husband's family to celebrate Christmas (6 hours drive...) Oh I could get so much sewing done... I'll be doing them immediately after my son starts school on 1/4. I'm all in.

  11. Are you going to feel motivated and energized by doing the new mysteries, or overwhelmed at starting two new projects? Sometimes it isn't the number of projects going, but how we feel about them that matters. I can't tell you how many times I've started a new project and finished it off completely while old projects waited patiently for me to return recharged and ready to sew.

  12. Go for it girl! You can do it. Look at your list of completed UFO's from 2011. Enjoy!

  14. I faced that same decision. I've decided to pass on the FA mystery. But I want to use up some2.5" strips so that is why I've decided to do the Planet Patchwork. That and the fact that Jan. 1 is a Sunday and the Rose Parade and bowl game won't be on. Now to get ready to do the mystery.

Good luck with your decision. And, look at your side bar ... you've finished 10 UFO's this year. Way to go.

Oh and to throw you a curve, Bonnie H. is posting the end to Orca Bay on Sunday also. Decisions, Decisions....

  15. Go ahead, Kathy, and be like the rest of us...crazy quilters. Enjoy it. You can always finish it later, but you can't always start a social project that is over...
    Hugs!

  17. I am facing the temptation as well but am RESOLVING to finish 12 UFOs in 2012. I am always dazzled by new designs and patterns and fabric and colours and it's so easy to start a new quilt...but not always easy to see it through to completion when some other eye candy catches my attention.

I'm also working on Bonnie Hunter's Orca Bay and am going to sew in the New Year working on that mystery. I'm printing out the Planet Patchwork mystery to do later but my focus will remain...UFOs!! I know that will make me feel so much better emotionally knowing I finished something. Just my two cents.

Whatever you decide will involve sewing so you will definitely have fun!!
