For the first time in at least 2 years I missed a Monday design wall posting since I have been just too busy to blog, and the same project is still (untouched) on my design wall. Also my journey with the BRACES is way harder than I thought it would be, and seems to have zapped my resources. My new best friend is orthodontic wax!
I was able to teach a miniature quilting class with the Grand Quilt Guild on Friday. They tolerated my dental challenges very well and we had a fun day of trying different techniques.
Here are some of the ladies showing a few of the projects they worked on. From all the talking at work, and teaching on Friday, the insides of my lips were pretty much "hamburger" by Saturday, so I missed out on most of quilt bee day at my guild. It is very hard not to be able to talk as much as I usually do!
Sure do hope I can talk and quilt more this week!
I never had braces, but "if we can put a man on the moon"... There must be something you can put on the braces before you have to talk... or on your mouth. Ask your dentist. He might have forgotten to mention it.
ReplyDeleteHugs!
When I was a teen, I wanted braces in just the worst way - not because I needed them but because I wanted to be like my friends. Hubby had them as an adult and I have been forever thankful that I didn't really need them afterall *s*
ReplyDeleteYou are on the right track with the wax. Also applesauce is a tasty, soothing treat. Hang in there!
I wish I could have been in that class you taught on minis! So many fun little projects!
ReplyDeleteKathy, Even though you don't get callouses on the inside of your mouth, I do think that over time my mouth was less prone to get torn up. Sure, it still happened, but not so easily. I remember being much more miserable at the beginning than I was the rest of the way through it. I know you can't remember what everyone has already told you, so I will remind you that I had braces for almost 4 years as an adult. I'm very glad I did.
So sorry to hear that the braces are giving you a hard time. I am sure it will all be worth it when your teeth are shiny and straight and stunning! Wish I lived close enough to take the miniature class, looks like lots of fun was had by all.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a fun class...sorry about your mouth! I didn't realize that they would get so sore. How do people put up with it, or do your lips get seasoned to it?
ReplyDeleteEventually the "new" will wear off and you'll get more comfortable. I wore braces for six years from age 11-17 (needed them very badly and had lots of adult teeth that took FOREVER to come down into place so they could be aligned thereafter). Your journey should be a lot shorter and you'll look wonderful when it is all done!
ReplyDeleteThe sporadic aching and soreness may make you feel like it's unbearable, but it truly will pass--till the next time they're tightened -- and then it acts up again. But that's braces for you. It's temporary discomfort with the end result being a lovely, straight, natural-looking smile. And you'll be glad you went through it. (I remember it well, like it was just a couple years ago.)
ReplyDeleteJello and pudding and applesauce will be your friends on the aching days.
I would love to attend one of your classes - I think it would be a lot of fun. Sorry to hear about the trouble with braces. As with all things this too shall pass and you will have a smile you will love!
ReplyDeleteDitto all the advice that the braces will get less problematic with time. I'm looking forward to you getting your "umph" back.
ReplyDeleteHope the braces are getting to be less of a challenge and that you are feeling more yourself.
ReplyDeleteMy hat's off to you for teaching even with a sore mouth!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a fun class!
