I finished the Lil' Twister pinwheel quilt top that I was working on last week, and I do love it! I predict that I will make more quilts using this technique because it's just fun! I could see myself sewing together the first step, then cutting the pinwheels and putting all the pieces in a kit to sew at a retreat.
Then I worked on ideas for my Capricorn stitcheries quilt top.
I love the effect of the half chain blocks and want to make the border with them. But I don't want the border to take away from the stitchery blocks that are the focus of this quilt.
This is option #1 with the solid red blocks between the half chain blocks. I think it's a little "heavy". Plain white blocks are a little boring. And I didn't like the flying geese idea either.
This is version #2 with the alternating half chain blocks pointing in.
This is version #3 with the alternating half chain blocks pointing out.
Do you have a favorite?
Or a recommendation for another version?

ReplyDeleteI like the idea #3, placing the extending lines of half chain blocks out. My opinion is to add the white between them, frame it with Red to finish it.
ReplyDeleteI like all 3 options, but to my eye the first two draw my eye right to the border instead of to the blocks. I agree with Mary - I think I would put a solid white border in there to frame the blocks and then either use the half blocks or solid red. I have a few of those stitcheries, too. Beautiful quilt Kathy!

ReplyDeletemmmm...aster manor fabric too lovely! and the red chain blocks look great....the border is up to you. I don't know I think I'd want to audition either a red or white stop border in there first, I have to see it before I could be sure of my wishy-washy opinions.
ReplyDeleteI vote for option #2, and then #3... For somw reason #1 is too blocky and draws my eye away from the center of the quilt. But then you are aksing someone who is dependant on chocolate to make a decision LOL

Looks like I'm with the majority is saying option 2! I think the blocks pointing inwards draw attention into the centre of the quilt which is what you want to achieve :)
